How many players jump from Championship to Top 4/UCL? I'm trying to think of the last one. Dele is one of the biggest jumps to immediate play time that I remember, but we were a much worse team when he arrived.

If Grealish is eyeing Prem starts, then he needs to aim for a side much lower in the table.

Grealish isn't a Championship level player and never has been. He's head and shoulders above anyone else at Villa and most other Championship teams for that matter. If he comes here he'll push very hard for a starting position IMO, whether that's competing with Eriksen, replacing him, or playing further back. He won't be a bench warmer and he won't come if that's how we view him.

People thinking Grealish isn't likely to be a starter are, in my opinion, in for a surprise (if we sign him).

We all very much know that the most important thing Poch looks for in a player is attitude. Grealish appears to have just the sort of attitude that Poch appreciates & I wouldn't be at all surprised if that's what makes Poch want him so much.

Grealish is basically fouled for a living & just feeds off it. If signed, he will add so much of what our midfield lacks.

I guess I don't understand what position he plays.

Agreed...he loves to find his teammates and if he had actual quality around him he might be amazing. As it is, his efforts are often wasted and he probably takes some shots he wouldn't if he had some quality to pass to in a better position. The beauty of him vs. an Eriksen is that he can actually dribble with the ball. The only question will be whether he can mentally keep up with the pace of the game and personnel as it is a big step from Villa to Spurs. Would have said the same thing about Dele. At worst, he's a Winks with some offensive ability.

This is right, he is only playing in the championship because he is Villa through and through and had he been at any other club he'd have been playing in the Premier League for the last two years.

I’ve said it before, he reminds me of modric. Being Coached by Poch & training with our squad will only make him better. He has all the qualities to be world class.

Turning out to be one of the signings I want us to make the most. So many times we only have Eriksen to look to for that bit of invention, creative spark or ability to keep us ticking in our midfield but Grealish is the also someone capable of producing as such. I just think he's someone who likes to get on the ball and try to orchestrate things and take responsibility which is something I feel we really lack at times, and even from Eriksen himself.

Fully expect Villa to be promoted at this point, now that Leeds are out of the picture.

If that happens I don’t think Grealish will be moving anywhere.

I'm not saying it wouldn't happen like that, but for Grealish to pass up what could be the chance of a lifetime would be a quite exceptional committment to Villa. In many ways it would be an admirable stance, but in others a very naive policy.

Grealish is villa through and through and he is also their captain, if they go up I give us 0% chance we sign him

He’s still young enough though to get another opportunity for a big move after a year or two in the PL as captain of his boyhood club.

I ain't so sure.

He's played in the PL with Villa before. He was clearly keen to come last summer for it to not materialise.

He may think it's the right time. I personally think it is.

He's ready for the step up. It's not another Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham last summer situ.

I also feel that if Villa go up, he'll stay with them for a few reasons:
1) Villa will likely demand a much greater fee for him (one that we will no longer be willing to pay)
2) He's made it clear that he wants to be an England player, and Southgate has said he wants to see Grealish play in the Premier League before he calls him up.
3) He's a guaranteed starter and talisman for Villa if they come up, for us he won't be guaranteed a starting spot.
4) As mentioned above, he loves his club and likely wouldn't mind playing for them back in the Premier League.

--
If they don't go up, he'll certainly push for a move because he wants and NEEDS to play in the Premier League.

Come on Derby! (villa's getting promoted though) :(

I guess I don't understand what position he plays.

I think Poch sees him similarly to what he wanted from Barkley, a player with the skillset to mould into that Dembele role. The downside is neither have his freakish strength on the defensive side.

In terms of Spurs I'd say he can play the Eriksen and Lamela roles, so very adaptable. By Eriksen I mean both the #10 and the deeper role he's played this year (the latter being the one JG has played mostly when I've seen him).

I actually think Grealish is a lot more talented than Barkley too. I'd love to see how he'd get on here but I have a feeling they'll win the final.
