Tielemans would serve as a good replacement for Eriksen. Ndombele is not a Eriksen type of player. Ndombele would replace Dembele.
No. Tielemans is nothing like Eriksen in terms of goals and assists. We have to do want we can to get Eriksen to sign a new contract

The January deal was a loan with no option to buy, that would be basically raising Monaco's youth for them. That wouldn't have been a good deal for us. He flopped in France, and it was a huge surprise he hit the ground running so quickly in the PL. Can't fault Levy/Poch for passing this one up.
Everybody moaning that Poch passed him up or didn't rate Tielemans needs to read the quote above. This coupled with the fact that Adrien Silva from Leicester was wanted by Jardim when he replaced Henry at Monaco, made it odds on that Leicester was going to be the prime destination.

and I read somewhere that Tielemans wanted as much playing time as possible which he might not have got here...

It was a great loan for him for all these reasons

Only half a season, first time in the PL and scores 3 goals and does 4 assists in the PL. Eriksen, for the whole season, scores 8 goals and 12 assists in the PL. Eriksen is off to Madrid.

Eriksen in five seasons has incredible attacking stats ie goals assists goals from outside the box free kicks mileage coverage. Tielemans plays in a different position and shouldn’t be compared imo.

Tielemans can play in that position and did it quite successfully in Anderlecht. He has the same qualities as Eriksen, two-footed, passing, scores outside the box etc . He's the realistic replacement to Eriksen for Spurs.

No offence to you, but that is a stupid fkn stance for the club to take.

Getting a good player in , in a position where we were massively light was only going to be a positive thing, whether we had an option to buy or not.

Who cares if we helped Monaco along the way, we would have won more points.

Never understood that thinking, if you can improve the team, even temporarily, you do it. Could have been the difference between CL qualification and Europa.

He could've been the difference between CL qualification and Europa, yet we achieved CL qualification without him, without helping Monaco & without forking out the millions for a loan fee and the millions in wages.

Maybe not such a stupid fucking stance for the club to take after all?

We made the CL by a point and the final by a minute or so. Too fine a margin.

We should have loaned this guy, and (if we’re interested now) Gomes to bolster the squad.

We’re now less likely than we would have been to get them

It was indeed a fine margin, but a big enough one at the end. Would Man City have won the league by a less fine margin if they'd signed someone else?

I get the point of the post I originally posted, but the fact is, not signing Tielemans on loan didn't make the difference between CL & EL qualification.

His signing wouldn't have been the difference between us & Man City, so it's a moot point, as we got into the CL & there's no difference between 2nd & 4th at the end of the day.

Getting him was not for closing the gap between City and us. But rather giving Poch flexibility to make the team selection. We were lucky that we didn’t drop out of top 4. Even 1 single loan would have helped us. But if you thought getting him was to challenge City, you were wrong. You thought he was Messi or Ronaldo?

What about the difference between CL finalists and CL winners?

Our season isn’t over yet.

As I said, it's all ifs and buts. That's what makes the game so magical.

Poch runs the team, he decided Tielemans wasn't required/wanted, we either have faith in him & back him as our manager, or we don't.

I'm a happy clapping tosser who supports everyone at the club, regardless of what I would personally like or prefer.

We got CL qualification more by the failure of our rivals than our own performances. Not only did we scrape in by the narrowest of margins, but those around us closed a significant gap in the process to take it right down to the wire. One of our most obvious deficiencies during that process was the huge lack of fit midfielders. We were bloody lucky to make it in the end.

Yeah, even suggesting at some sort of 'Youri Tielemans could be the difference between winning the CL and finishing as runners-up' argument is not really gonna work.

He helped us get top 4 by putting in great performances against our rivals!

He’s clearly very good.

I've said nothing to the contrary. I've never actually given an opinion on the player at all.

All I've done is try to support the decision of the guy who's guided this squad to yet another top 4 finish in the league & a Champions League final.

I think it's nothing less than he deserves.

Whether people think he's fucking stupid or not, (for not doing what they wanted) ie bringing in Tielemans on loan, his decision has been somewhat vindicated by, once again, exceeding what was targeted at the start of the season.

People have been talking about this guy for what seems like years - couldn’t believe how young he is when I saw it recently
