Who would he be benching?
No one lol. He'd have to play in a midfield 3 and that doesn't suit our players. People are over-hyping him massively. He's a good player but I think we can do better, especially if we're looking at CMs. As an Eriksen replacement it's a huge downgrade. He'd be depth for now, which is fine, but he certainly isn't starting for us yet. I think we can spend more wisely before getting to that point

Wouldn't pay more than 20m for this one , even that's generous.
Really? When you can pick up a one legged donkey in a football shirt for that money these days?

If they get promotion I suspect the pressure will be on him to stay at Villa which seems natural but are Villa really going to satisfy his ambition? Had Villa been in the prem for the last four years would he want to stay there? He's done his bit for the club and deserves a break.

We should be able to persuade him Irrespective if Villa go up. We are light years ahead of villa.

I'd imagine that persuading him won't be the issue as much as his price tag would be. The money they'll get from being in the Premier League means they'll be able to charge us for more than he's worth/we can afford.

It's a fair point this. Imagine if a team had finished in positions 10 to 17 last year. You'd back us, if we showed willing, to get a player off them.

Why wouldn't we be able to from a promoted club? It's not quite the same as Sessegnon, who was going to get less time here than at Fulham.

For Grealish, we would be telling him that he'd be knocking on the first team door.

Whether Villa could let him go is another matter. Surely they'd be f*cked without him?

That's pretty difficult to say atm without knowing who's going or who's leaving. But if hypothetically speaking Eriksen was to leave and Grealish was to come in, a midfield and forward set up like this would be pretty fucking tasty IMO and give us a really great balance in midfield as, while he may not be as creative as Eriksen (but who is?), he's much better suited to the deeper midfield positions than either Erisken or Dele, and it would allow Dele to go back to playing in his best position. If we get them, rotate that deeper three with Ndombele and another as necessary. Grealish would be a great flexible option as he's capable both further forward and deeper.

Winks
Sissoko - Grealish
Dele
Kane - Son/Lucas

No way Villa sell him if they go up, they wouldn't even sell him last season when they were in the Championship!

I think as much as he would love to move to a club like Spurs, as a boyhood Villa fan, he would absolutely love to captain Villa in the Premier League.

They had audio of him on Talksport this morning. He was saying how huge a Villa fan he is and how proud he is to be captain. You could tell he was getting emotional just thinking about it. No way he leaves if they go up.

I agree with others on here - as a Lamela replacement, a great signing. But I would feel slightly uncomfortable with the idea that he's the Eriksen replacement (should he leave).

I watched a bit of the game last night and he’s such a composed player. He really sees what’s goi on in the game too and has a great weight of pass. I wasn’t bothered last summer but now it’s looking like we should really go for him.

If we sign him he will be a regular starter and in the england team as he has what the national side is missing.

Just as long as both step ups aren’t too much for him.

Looking less likely with Villa looking to seal a promotion spot. I wouldn’t mind if he came. Not the finished article but has serious potential in a good coaching set up.

If Grealish is expected to be Eriksen's replacement, then we need to look at his output - Eriksen has a 29% goal participation rate this season - which is not unusual for him. Jack has a 14% goal participation rate at Villa.

That's quite a drop off as playmakers go.

Wasn't he injured until March, missing more than half the season?

How is the goal participation rate calculated?

Ideally we hold on to Eriksen AND we sign Grealish. Eriksen has needed an understudy, cup substitute for 3 seasons now. Lamela has never looked comfortable enough or fit enough to be that replacement.

If Grealish was to come here it would be because he is ambitious and wants to play at the top level and Internationals. He won't come here to be Eriksen's understudy and Cup stand in.

We will get another player to replace Eriksen, obvious we need 2 midfielders, should Eriksen leave

He would play plenty of games. I don't think it would be reasonable for him to expect to be a starter in a UCL finalist team. Especially if Eriksen stays.

How many players jump from Championship to Top 4/UCL? I'm trying to think of the last one. Dele is one of the biggest jumps to immediate play time that I remember, but we were a much worse team when he arrived.

If Grealish is eyeing Prem starts, then he needs to aim for a side much lower in the table.

My first thought is that if you swap Eriksen in for Grealish in your team above then and it's a stronger team.

I like Grealish a lot, and his ability to stand up and then go past someone in CM is very Dembele'esque. My main concern is his work rate off the ball which massively needs to improve to play in Poch team, and if he is willing to do that he can be an awesome player!

Ultimately I'd prefer Ndombele if I could only have one, but getting both and having Sissoko and Winks also in the mix would give us a very decent CM next season!
