Saw Rice for the first time in CM last night, looks a real player. It would wrong at this stage to compare him to Skipp, who knows where he'll be in a couple of years.

Well summarised!

Does Skipp seem slow to anyone? Certainly not very quick from what I’ve seen. Good brain on him though

Little early in his career to start writing him off, but he does not demonstrate the same level of confidence and authority of Rice. Hudson-Odui and Sancho.. He is obviously rated by Poch, who sees much more of him than we do, so let's see what the next couple of years deliver before he is judged good enough.

Honestly think Rice gets overrated right now. Rice has a real elegance about the way he moves and I think that fools some people. I watched him really closely in the 1st half and every single pass was sideways to the fullbacks. He didn’t once try to carry the ball or look for a long pass or even a short pass forward into feet. He also got done horribly a couple of times on the counter. Gave the ball away and was very lucky to instantly win it back. Heard a lot say he will end up at CB and I firmly believe that. I just don’t think he’s technically good enough to play that position in a top quality team. He’s absolutely nowhere near Winks at the moment in that position and I certainly wouldn’t trust him over Dier. As for comparisons with Skipp it’s much too early. But Skipp is a much more industrious player and sometimes that doesn’t look as pretty.

Hudson-Odui who hasn’t even started for Chelsea yet? ?‍♂️

Rice is showing more authority as he had back end of last season and this where he’s been trusted playing regular first team football (plus he’s a little older).

Sancho also has been trusted by his manager and played a large number of games for Dortmund.

I personally believe in Skipp and hope to see him given even more opportunities to prove his worth.

You can’t compare Skipp with 2 wingers. A CDM needs to be strong physically, I very much doubt there’s an established CDM playing in any top sides across Europe at 18. Sancho and Hudson odoi are bordering on freaks like a Rooney. And wingers can get away with being slight in build even though those 2 aren’t especially.

If by top side you mean a side in the top 4 of the top 5 leagues (top 6 of PL), there isn't a single established 18 year old playing CDM. Guendouzi is the youngest at 19 (arguably a CM), the next youngest is Tousart at Lyon and he is 21.

Not on for very long today but I thought he done well when he came on,made some good blocks and interceptions and looked a lot more confident today and his passing was good.

He looks like he has got bigger but not by much but you could see it.

Going forward he will be a top player for us people just need to give him time and a lot like Winks he will come good at some point.

I’d be happy with this as well.

Buying more than one CM would seriously block Skipps development.
It's not necessarily about the numbers but the type of player. We need a deep lying play maker. If that player gets injured we cant replace him which will affect how we play.

Winks and skipper seem more like link players. Sissoko is, well, sissoko. So if new guy gets crocked what do we do?

Pleased with him today, recent (limited) appearances he looked a little shy but today you could see he wanted to have an effect on the game. Good to see
