I actually think we do, or at least have played better without Kane the last few times he's been injured. I would even go as far to say that I don't think we would have seen those stuttering performances against Burnley and Southampton had we been set out as we currently are, without him and yes, I'm aware he still ironically scored in both.

One thing I will say is that I think our very best football with this team has most certainly come when Kane has been in it though. It's just about finding our flow with him in the side again.

I’m going to say something obscene .. I don’t know if I agree with myself...

If Eriksen goes, why not make Harry a #10 / second striker and put son up front. Then spend huge on a set of fullbacks and a centre mid (Ndombele type).

Seriously.......

Harry's effect on Son is quite strange.

I know in some parts of the Far East, respect is a big thing.

Possibly, be it consciously or subconsciously, Sonny defers to Kane, the captain, leader and Tottenham legend, when on the pitch together? It certainly seems like he’s a bit more inhibited.

You’d think given Kane’s intelligence on a pitch, that they’d be able to play just as well in the same team, but Son’s levels do seem to drop.

Don't underestimate Lucas Moura's importance in freeing up Son on Wednesday. Both Lucas and Son have quick feet but Lucas did his in a selfless manner by doing a lot of hard yards while Son could stay up and occupy attacking spaces. Plus Lucas was involved in the goal at WHL and the first two goals at the Etihad (and could have made a brilliant turn and through ball assist if Sonny could have got his touch right in the second half).

We haven't seen Son, Kane and Lucas start together enough but I feel next season that is the combination we need to use more.

But where does Bale fit in?

Still think we could see a 4-4-2/4-2-3-1 hybrid setup and accommodate our best players. I don't think Eriksen will be here come next season, so with that in mind, something like:

-- Moura ---- Winks -------- Dier ---- Alli --
--------- Kane ---------------- Son --------------

Or:

--------- Winks ------ Dier -----------------
--- Moura ------ Kane ---------- Alli ----
--------------------- Son ----------------------

4-2-3-1 in the sense of Kane dropping a little deeper, getting a chance to gather the ball and run at defenses. Moura and Son running off that with Alli operating in that follow role where he really thrives (As well as back post runs), think that may be what we need. No idea who we will bring in come the summer, and that could change things significantly, but for me, this would make a lot of sense considering the current options.

I think half the problem is Kane dropping so deep. I just don’t know why at such a young age Kane is retreating into a withdrawn number 10 role.

In my opinion this has impacted the amount of chances he gets every game. Whilst he is excellent linking up and dropping deep, I think he’s better playing as the last man furthest forward and Son can then play off him. Kane simply isn’t as dangerous playing deeper and a few raking cross field passes doesn’t make up for it.

Poch really needs to sort out those tactics. We looked much better going forward two seasons ago when we had Kane playing the number 9 role and Son and Alli playing off him. Is it a coincidence these were also Alli, Kane and Son’s most productive goal scoring seasons individually and collectively?

I'm with you 100% but in my opinion this will only get worse

It seems when Kane plays, he basically makes himself the fulcrum of the team and everything goes through him. It’s fine when Kane does something amazing, but if he is off his game we struggle. Basically Kane becomes our tactical system when he plays. Whereas when he doesn’t play, we have a much more spread out and balanced way of attacking and playing thus more fluid.

Poch needs to tell Kane that he is just one piece of our tactical jigsaw and to lead the line as our number 9. Instead what has been happening all season, is that when he plays, he becomes our entire system.

For me this is the problem and the difference people are noticing between us playing “better” when Kane isn’t fit.

You know what it reminds me of? It reminds me of Rooney dropping deeper for United when he became past it, obviously it’s not as bad as that, but it’s a similar situation.

Our tactical system needs to be built around all our players, not just one player and we should play to Kane’s strengths as a finisher and number 9. I’m fed up with seeing Kane playing 50 yards from goal with other attackers ahead of him.

Once again you're saying I've suggested dropping Kane when I've done nothing of the sort.
You're saying you'd perhaps consider playing another player instead of him, no? The definition of dropping, no?

Seriously mate, are you ok?

I disagree we're more fluid without Kane. We won games in his absence, through grit and determination. Not flamboyance and free flowing football.

Definitely true. I'd loved the Chelsea game at Wembley this season.. That was us at our free flowing best with our star quartet all playing.

Its not rocket science. Kane is a world class player. The entire approach of the opposition changes when he doesnt play.
Son is fast.
Without Kane they attack more and leave more space for Son.
Lets face it when we have Kane Son Alli and Eriksen on the pitch most teams hardly come out of their own half.
Doesnt leave much room for Son to do his thing.
To suggest we're a better team without Kane is fuckin idiotic imo.

Regardless of whether we are better with or without Kane I want Poch to see that he can rest him, I know he wants to play everygame but the team have proved he doesn't need to constantly start after 6-8 weeks of being injured, he can be rested for certain games in order to keep him fresh. He has reoccurring injuries, we need to protect him, sometimes from himself such is his desire to play.

I think he's had a great season, his passing and hold up play this season have gone up yet another level but I am concerned about a couple of things since that injury at bournemouth last season. Namely that we rarely see the shots into the corners anymore and certainly I feel his shot volume per game has gone down. it might just be me but I feel he was a better finisher in open play a couple of seasons ago and this season he's actually scored a significant amount more with his head.
