I can sense the “Poch was wrong about Tielemans” vibe...

Could it not likely be the case that Pochettino has a more established/ talented player in mind that will be available this summer? E.g. a certain Frenchman.

(And Poch doesn’t do loans)

Diers problem is, he’s not a midfielder. He’s barely a defensive midfielder thesedays.

Just stop fighting it and become a really top class ball playing centre half. I genuinely think he could become a top class centre half. Time is running out though. Two choices - fairly decent holding midfielder or top class centre half

He’s too big to be a midfielder. He had a good period in that role but he’s grown since then. Just not mobile enough

Arguably our and his best football under Poch was when he lined up as the RCB in a 3 with Toby and Jan when we played 3-4-3. And then as @am_yisrael_chai said he had that ability to step into midfield to roam and destroy when we switched to 4-2-3-1. That gave us incredible dynamism and flexibility tactically during that period. I think the problem is though that our tactics have moved on from that more than an issue with Dier himself. We still use the 3-back but with Sanchez and Foyth arriving he isn't required at centre-half anymore. And now that we're using a diamond midfield I don't think that plays to his strengths. He hasn't get the ability to dictate tempo like Winks from the deeper role and he doesn't have the athleticism like Sissoko to play as one of the wider centre mids. With Toby's departure seemingly inevitable at this stage however I wouldn't be against dropping him back in rather than going big for a direct replacement. Rather have a young leftie brought in to eventually replace Jan as he winds down over the next couple years.

Here’s my periodic reminder that Ndombele is not a realistic option for us.

Spurs do not offer anything Lyon can’t. There is no reason for him to move to us unless he is a closet spurs fan. He will develop well at Lyon in a league where hell play let’s of games. It won’t inhibit his chances of being selected for France. He’ll play CL football every season and Lyon will get closer to the title every year.

When he does go, the biggest teams in the world will want him. PSG will be one of the first in line and Tuchel has repeatedly said he admires him. We’re not going to compete on prestige, trophies or money with the other clubs that will want him.

In terms of the financials, Lyon owe Amiens 20% sell on fee so whatever fee you thought he could go for, Aulas will try to extract that added 25%.

Would he improve us? Absolutely. But the time was last season.

See you in May for an identical post.
Lyon lost at home to bottom of the table Dijon today. We’d never do that... The result put a major dent in their hopes to finish in the automatic qualification spot. They’re now 4 points behind Lille (who also have a game in hand) with just 7 games to go. Guaranteed CL is no longer a sure thing for Tanguy.

Plus he was on the bench, so your playing lots of games comment is also a bit up in the air.

I agree in principle, but Dier would need to massively work on his consistent distribution to replace Toby.

I watched a bit of that game, felt like a pre season friendly and the ground was barely half full. Not a great advert for the french game tbh.

Thats just the third time this year he hasn’t started.

Losc def in better position but they have to play PSG and travel to Lyon. It’s not hopeless. In any case, finishing third is not as dangerous as it was a few years ago - they can’t play anyone from big 4 leagues. Toughest game to qualify for CL group stage would be third place Russian or Portuguese side.

Lyon beat Man City this season so they aren’t a bad side. I think we will finish third this season but you could hardly say our CL qualification this year or in future years is a given.

Anyway the point is - Ndombele will be leaving Lyon in the summer. Every move is a risk. He won’t be making a relatively side ways move. He’ll want the upside in terms of money and trophies to be massive. I’d say hell almost certainly end up at PSG given how badly they want him.

Tielemans needs to be a priority whilst the wealthier clubs battle for Ndombele

Opening offer - 40m. Settle for 40m plus N'Koudou

Just thinking, maybe the reason we didn’t go after tielemans on loan is that there would’ve been no option to buy, why develop a player for 6 months for another team to profit from it

You really can't ignore Maddison can you. We need to strike hard and quick if in deed Eriksen is going.

I think your views lacked credibility when you included Dier and omitted Sissoko. Dier for me is a spent source who will only get back in in dire circumstances. I don't that Southgate will be even including him in any future England set up. Onions and all that

Dier .... The new Sissoko

Feel he’s a bit overrated personally. Good on dead balls but his all round game hasn’t really blown me away, the games I’ve watched he’s drifted out of and also looks a bit lazy/arrogant.

Feel if we were to go down this route Brooks is the one. I love his change of pace, he can take the ball on the half turn and go through the gears and he’s got a silky left foot. I still really like Grealish and looks like he’s getting better all the time. That one will depend on Villa as it looks like they’re making a serious run for the play offs.

There is a lot of very talented young British players at the moment but there are also some overrated ones who would cost a lot. AWB I’m not completely sold on either, looks a bit awkward on the ball and he seems to me to be a bit of a last ditch defender, looks good when he’s sliding in tackling as the wingers just about to go past him but I don’t think he reads the game well enough at the moment which is understandable because it’s a relatively new position for him.

Moise Kean looks phenominal. A young Balotelli with the right attitude. Would love him as back up to Kane.

I thought the same about Maddison but he's getting better and better if you listen to Leicester fans.
