Sanchez had an excellent debut season where he deputised for Toby for the majority really well, I think this season there been more disruption in defence and midfield which has caused a lot of uncertainty in our defence and subsuqently our players.

Not sure on Sanchez being at the level of Toby but I don't think it's as far as people are making out providing we sort the areas around him.

I'll have what some of you're on mate. Sanchez reaching Toby's level? Absolutely no chance.

He's an excellent prospect but still very rash and occasionally error prone. Toby is the best CB we've had since King. To compare the two on ability is ridiculous. Potential? maybe. Current levels? Way off

If we start next season with Jan, Sanchez and Foyth as our CB choices, with Dier and Davies as alternatives, good luck with that... We need a top drawer replacement for Toby. Simple as. Especially to plan for the day Jan can't do it anymore

Even Toby makes mistakes, and last season we finished third with Sanchez and Jan being our main CB

Hold on, so Spurs have had CL for three seasons running and haven't managed to sign anyone at all of note, in fact posting our worst windows transfer wise for many a year, and now we are being told that THIS summer getting CL is key to enabling us to sign the players we are after. LOL.

Regardless of getting CL or not, Spurs aren't signing any top players or spending serious money, we've been here before too many times. Spurs will have an excuse for not signing anyone, if we don't get CL, it's because we don't get CL. If we do get CL, it'll be because agents/other clubs/Poch/Levy/Chirpy's fault.

This side will finally properly break up this summer with the exits of Eriksen and Toby, and the golden opportunity we had to win stuff will have passed us by.
Exactly this. The sentiment that a club needs CL to attract players is 150% not the case, and hasn't been for at least 4-5 years when the money in the game really shot through the roof. It's all about the money and the manager. Nothing else. The manager for attracting players we have - too bad we're lacking (or not willing to spend) the money.

I found it interesting that JJ said about the players we signed to replace Walker haven't worked out, I think Aurier is a given but I wondered if there's a possibility that Sanchez/Foyth haven't kicked on as to how we had hoped. Certainly I'm concerned by Sanchez making errors, He's had a few games this season where he's been excellent but I think largely he's had a difficult season, I don't think he's as close to Alder as people suggest. I bring this up because I always assumed we signed Sanchez/Foyth knowing we were going to replace Alder with them so I'd be surprised if we signed another CB because I would propose after 2 seasons we expect Sanchez to come in and be able to be one half of our first choice CB.

Feel like I need to add this caveat with every player discussion but I'm certainly not writing Sanchez off, he's very young still and I think he has what it takes to kick on.

I think people forget that Sanchez is only 22 years old. Plus he had a fantastic season for us last year.

I can tell you now that Alderweireld was NOWHERE NEAR the level Sanchez is at when he was 22.

Hope Joachim Andersen is the real deal!
.......if he is a genuine target then we need to be getting it wrapped up pronto. If Toby already has one foot out of the door and we've identified who we want we need to be getting these deals over the line immediately. Not optimistic though, we'll drag it out as always.

Are we really likely to buy anyone who can come in and genuinely improves the first 11?

Or are we more likely to buy only after sales, and then get replacements for Toby and Eriksen which are ultimately downgrades in quality and which see us fall further behind?

Pretty sure I know the most likely answer.

We don’t do “Dele’s“ anymore. Poch didn’t even know who Bowen was when asked about him. Based on the Moura and Aurier purchases I just can’t see us buying to improve at all.

There were reports that his agent and a Sampdoria representative were in London last month I believe. Theres been a ton of rumors, we shall see. I certainly like the look of him and think he plays on the left for Sampdoria. He looks much better offensively than Sanchez as well.

Simple question, no need to get your knickers in a twist.

Well it was a loaded question because I've seen you decide that peoples opinions didn't matter because they're american so I took an educated guess on how you wanted this conversation to go.

I'm nearly certain that Joachim Anderson will be our Toby replacement. He plays very similarly to him too. Just have to hope that he favours a move to us over Inter & AC who both are reportedly keen on him.

I'm fairly certain we can offer better wages than both and he'd have a better opportunity here I think. Inter already have De Vrij & Skinnier and are brining in Godin. AC have Caldara & Romagnoli as their future pair. I think Andersen would have a legit shot as being the future partner with Sanchez here.

I don't know whether it's been due to injuries or the WC, but he has only played in 18 matches this season so far. so hard to find your feet when your not being played regular
