What do we make of Rory Burns?

Obviously he deserves to open for England at the Ashes as he hasnt had the chance to bat in conditions where he has generally excelled for Surrey, but does anyone think his technique just looks...weird?

I cant say i've watched too much of him at Surrey, but does he always look really uncomfortable and never really set at the crease?

Yeah he's always had that unusual technique/stance. It's been pondered before as to whether it held back his England chances, but if it works for him it works.

Jennings reaches 20, that's his spot secured for another couple of years.

Butcher & Key were saying yesterday that he had a technique all of his own, but he's certainly made it work over the last couple of seasons for Surrey. Whether he can make it work at the highest level or not remains to be proven, but like you say let's see what he does in the summer.

his technique works for him, so fair enough. does look odd though.

but mentality wise i like what i see. doesn't seem to get flustered, seems composed and comfortable with his game. i think once he settles down and stops find plain weird ways (and times) to get out, he will be fine.

a lot less of a concern than the walking wicket 'Buster Keaton' (Bob Willis's words, not mine!).

#OnThisDay in 2003: Andy Flower and Henry Olonga defy Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwean regime by wearing black armbands to mourn "the death of democracy" in their country. It was perhaps the bravest act of defiance ever seen on a cricket field. http://es.pn/1iE4V2f

Wow, we've turned up for once in this game...... A dead rubber against a team missing its captain and a bowler down.

The heroes.

3 good days in a row! Hard to say how much the Windies are putting in to this test. But still would've been nice if this team had turned up 2wks ago.

Denly at 3 and beg Cook to open and thats the Ashes sorted lol

If Cook agreed to open in the Ashes, how long do you think it would be after he nicked to first slip before the first post appeared in this thread berating both him and the selectors for such a stupid decision?

Please give your answer in terms of elapsed seconds! :D

If I was him I'd quash the idea right now before any pressure was put on him.

Mind you, I bet Boycott's still keeping his bat well oiled just in case ...

I see Cook as a pretty measured individual, who once he has made a decision (which he won't have taken lightly) will stick to it, so no chance of him coming back.
The top order problem just won't go away and has been seen Straus retired and Cook hit some poor form - maybe 6 years or so...……..
Hopefully the Windies tour has focussed the minds if needed that it needs urgent attention.

Think Roy's got his work cut out to make a positive contribution in this match now.

Seemed an absolute dolly.

Never the easiest of catches going back the way he was and having Morgan in his eye line probably didn’t help, however, that’s the reason why you don’t drop CG, he’s unplayable when he gets in!
