£6m a year pay rise?

My point though is he can go for free the following year and get that in a year plus a signing on fee - so he is a winner.

And if he doesnt sign and we want to sell then it will be at a much lower fee than he is worth (disregarding his contractual situation)

Brilliant with the ball but offers 0 without, when have you seen Eriksen winning back the ball? Both weak and slow.
He was the man that got the block in on Rondon's shot on our six yard line saving an almost certain goal.
Eriksen's game is not a hard tackling battling midfield destroyer, that doesn't make him weak and slow, no more than it did Glenn Hoddle.

RM will spend big this summer. Also they will sell, Isco will 100% leave, so will Kovacic. Those two alone will cover the cost of Eriksen given his contract situation. The only way I maybe see him staying is if we win the league. But we won't. And even then he would probably still feel like it was time to move on. I really don't see a single scenario in which he stays.
I don't follow Madrid exceptionally closely but I don't think anything is really guaranteed as far as their outgoings go this summer. They'll probably have a new manager who you'd think would have some input as to who he'd like to keep.

All of Isco, Kovacic, and James could realistically go but it will surely depend somewhat on how the new manager rates them, so it seems entirely plausible to me that they might hold onto two of those players and decide to spend the £100m it would take to buy Eriksen elsewhere.

Think this a very limited view
of what football is about.
Watch him on the counter
Often leads the charge.
He is not slow.
Watch him when he hasn't got the ball
he is finding space
to receive the ball.
A team of hard tackling beasts
is overkill.
Someone's got to do the thinking
and forward planning.
Others are much better equipped
to win the ball.
Many of our hard men
have limited passing ability.

Personally I would be shocked if they got rid of Solari, he has finally given bthe team an identity, they are winning games again and he is well loved by the players and the board. Unless they start playing poorly again I don't see them getting rid of him. RM have been changing the way they do their business, instead of going for big names they are looking for young talents and players running low on their contracts. Isco at this point has also burnt a lot of bridges with the board and the fans and Kovacic will be used in the Hazard deal. Beyond that James was already done when they loaned him out for two seasons.

He's actually quick and is vigilant in defence, though I will concede he is a bit of a fanny when it comes to putting his foot in. I do wonder how people see things so differently.

Yeah he works hard off the ball, but he’s not one to get stuck in.

Embarrassing comparison quite frankly.

Football fans can be so dumb sometimes, when you have a player who drops under their level suddenly he's average, funny stuff.

The exact same principle can be applied to the comments about him making one defensive block though. Most of the time he gets near a player when they're on the counter but they brush past him like he's not there, would love for him to just make one of those cynical fouls sometimes or even just a proper tackle. Yes he occasionally makes a block or ghosts up behind someone who is dithering but to act like he offers a proper defensive shield is laughable.

Regardless of all this he is still overrated and that simply means he is not at the Real Madrid world class level people perceive him to be at. On occasion he is but he has too many games where he sees a lot of the ball (that's his role) but doesn't really offer a great deal with it. His set pieces have been woeful for 2 or 3 years just to add to that. Someone summed it up nicely the other day on here when they said that commentators always talk about how dangerous a set piece for Spurs/Eriksen is for the other team because of his potency 4 years ago.

If we're honest, Spurs is probably his level. Hazard is an absolute game changer 10+ times per season, he will be the one to end up at Madrid. I guess the positive for those of you that love Eriksen is he's less likely to leave due to his lack of consistency.

Always thought he was overhyped, great player but not to the standards people make him out to be.

Not consistent enough, he will have a exceptional game when the opponent gives him space but struggle when teams press. He has given away the ball so often lately also his delivery from free kicks/corners have been shocking, never beating the first man... Oh and he hasn't scored from a free kick for us in years.

People will disagree but he reminds me of Ozil.

I think one thing that made him so effective previous seasons was Dier.
Eriksen would step into space and Dier would accurately find him first time, cutting out a couple of pressers.
This gave him time and options.

Dier has been below par or injured much of the season and in any case it is now Winks who dictates play from our half. Winks plays the % balls and Eriksen only gets the ball when their defence has all it's ducks in a row.

Of course the care Winks takes with the ball is part of the reason we are having a good season, but it does mean Eriksen is not used to his max.

Strongly disagree with your sentiment here.

Alot has been said about how he is operating deeper this season, he is rarely one of the front 3 nowadays. He is starting moves more rather than playing the final incisive pass. He was also talking about how he doesn't mind where he plays as long as he is getting the ball...
I don't think he's regressed as a player at all, and you've provided all the valid reasons about this season already in your post. I'd also add that the whole team hasn't been as good performance wise. We've just been much better at grinding out results.

The only thing that concerns me about Eriksen is him leaving.
Fair enough, guys.

I'm a huge Eriksen fan, and think he's been our best player over the 2 or so season prior to this one, but I struggle to see how you can argue that he hasn't had a dip this year in comparison to 2017/18. I mean, he was in the TotS last year, so perhaps it's just a case of being a victim of his own standards, but I don't think he's reached anywhere near the heights of last year that saw him become one of the very best 10s in the world.

I acknowledge that he's playing deeper this season too, but I don't think it's too dissimilar a role to one he's had in the past. He's always been a midfielder that picks up the ball from the CBs, but then is also the one to play the assist or the ball before the assist as well. As a result, I'm not sure it's a justification for the drop in creativity numbers this year.

Again, I don't actually think he's had a bad season, or anything like that, I just don't think he's been *as* good this year as in the past, so by definition it's a regression, but that was probably the wrong word to use in my OP. He's still a wonderful footballer.

I, too, am concerned about him leaving. Hopefully he signs that contract soon.
