....

Earlier in the week I found an interesting thread about the stadium on a forum for architects/engineers and those who generally like the construction industry. There are a few familiar names over there so clearly I'm not the only SC member to wander in:
https://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=549397&page=4102

Some good stuff in there from people who (seemingly) know what they're talking about. There appears to be a consensus that in terms of the safety systems Mace have done exactly what they should have - catching the problems before the official tests were taking place and moving to resolve them. The post at the top of that link has particular information about the testing of the safety system. There are no shouts of "sabotage" or "incompetence" from the well-informed throughout the thread.
....
Well fancy that. A forum for project managers and people in the construction industry come to a consensus that actually Mace and their project managers and workers are not to blame here.

Actually SSC's thread has been really informative, and in the absence of any formal facts, piece together pretty credible narrative. It's just every now and then reality comes along and some of the conclusions they've come to, despite all their experience, have proved to be wrong.
And it sometimes turns out that the ITK from a friend's friend who actually works there is absolutely spot on. This doesn't go down well. Very amusing though.

I'm with @vegassd on this: the hysteria that's been going around isn't very constructive and all it does is feed the hysteria.

I sympathise, I truly do, with those that have been inconvenienced by the season ticket situation. I'm sure it can be close to making people want to tear their hair out.

And for those who don't have STs who just want to be able to know that we've gone home again (like me) it's not much better.

But some of the suggestions I've seen in this thread are borderline (and sometimes cross the border) paranoid.

The idea that the club are trying to defraud fans. Why? To make more money? Surely there are easier ways to extract money out of the fans without having to do it in this roundabout manner that involves paying however many thousands of pounds to rent out Wembley stadium?

Or the idea that the club knew well in advance that the stadium wasn't going to be finished and chose not to inform the fans. Again, to what purpose? What would the club gain by doing that? More money from ST holders? But then the club is still losing money by having to rent out Wembley stadium and provide refunds to fans who don't want to go.

Or the idea that the club are slow in providing information. What information do you want them to provide? "Day 400: still can't open the stadium; Day 401: still can't open the stadium; Day 402: still can't open the stadium. Dave fixed the intercom system; Day 403: can now open the stadium. No, just kidding - it's still not done."?

And to call it a shambles is a bit strong as well. Including demolition, the Emirates hovel took two and a half years to build and that was nearly 15 years ago. Wembley took four and a half years including demolition. The Olympic stadium took three years. Even a small stadium like Kirklees took four years for full completion. We've done ours in less than two and it's the third biggest stadium in England. That it's taken such a short time isn't a shambles, it's a miracle, even with the fire system or whatever it is having teething problems. Sorry to have to put it rather bluntly, but something isn't a shambles just because it's inconvenienced you.

There's nothing wrong with feeling a bit negative about what's happened. It's not a positive that the opening has been delayed, after all. Feeling negative and expressing that negativity are fine. Extrapolating conspiracy theories in order to salve that negative feeling is just foolish though and serves no purpose.

There's no conspiracy here. There's no shadowy evil types thinking up more and more ingenious ways of taking your money or keeping you in the dark. The club want the stadium done just as much as you do, if for no other reason but that we all spend money there. If it's not open, it's not making money. Let's all calm the conspiracy talk, yes?
It's still an ongoing construction site. Does it look finished? Mostly, yes. But there are still works going on so it is not finished yet. Also, I hate to be pedantic but the build started May of 2016 when demolition began on part of WHL. Granted, we were able to play out 16/17 with all but European competition at the Lane before moving into Wembley full time last season and for what will in all likelihood be all of this season and the build will have taken 3 years come May.

I think the demolition of WHL north stand started in May 2017 but the construction of the new north stand and partial construction of the west and east stands for the new WHL stadium began early in 2016. So the full co struction will be over 3 years.

OK, fair enough, three years. But your pedantry ( :playful: ) doesn't detract from the main point - that there is no shadowy conspiracy going on. No?

They are dodgy at best and if you’ve been a ST holder for any length of time you'd know how much they care about their most loyal supporters

Indifference toward the fans still doesn't equate to a conspiracy. Some of the stuff in this thread has strayed deep into tinfoil hat country.

If we're nitpicking, technically the whole project started in 2012, with initial demolition to build the new Sainsburys and the offices. If anything, the massive redevelopment that has gone on over the last 7 years makes my overall point even stronger - that all that redevelopment has gone on, gone through, met and cleared countless obstacles - owners refusing to sell, clearances from Haringey council (I was at the final one and met Daniel Levy) - and is now almost complete.

One major delay, it happens to be right at the end, an unanticipated obstacle that came at the worst possible time. Whatever we may wish to criticise ENIC for, the delivery of the stadium and the NDP itself shouldn't really appear. They've created a project and a stadium that will be the envy of the world. No other ground in the Premier League can rival it. Few, if any, grounds in Europe's elite can rival it.

It's like we've waited seven years for our new custom-built supercar to arrive and the wrong tyres have been installed. It's not that big a deal. Frustrating, for sure. Inconvenient, doubtless. But delays happen. It's not a conspiracy. It's not a plan. It's a hiccup, that's all.

The other thing that really pisses me off is having to buy a ticket for each and every game i want to see at Wembley. I have a season ticket precisely because I want to know I have a ticket for each game and can just turn up with my card and get in. Why, having paid up front for my season ticket, do I have to keep checking (a) the on the sale dates (b) trying to remember the individual day they go on sale (c) sit in front of my computer in a bloody queue waiting to buy my ticket ( afraid to do anything else on the computer in case I lose my place in the queue) and (d) pay twice for the same game even though I do get a refund for one later on. This rant does not include the extra time it take me to get to Wembley and that f.....g long steep walk up Olympic Way.
Ask for a full refund and don't fucking go then. Just tired of the constant moaning from people like yourself.

I wonder how long they'll persevere with this Tyco bespoke fire alarm panel before admitting defeat & replacing it with a standard panel, that's what I'd recommend.

If they've installed devices that work with other systems then there's plenty of more reliable systems out there.

Maybe that’s the delay - the replacement?

Yet here you are calling me out again. The only thing I said was about the club name which I’d still maintain. And I said the grass looked rougher than I thought it would. The other stuff was not me.Yet somehow every negative post gets attributed to me. Makes me laugh as I get called a happy clapper on twitter.

You’d be fun if you weren’t so bloody serious. Lighten up ?

Well we never had a cheese room before so they couldn't justify the increases year on year

No, I'm incredibly happy when they freeze the season ticket prices. I mean they are already the most expensive in the world and what would our chairman do with his 7m salary/bonus and the owners billions. I'm so happy I can in some way contribute to all the trophies we win every season

Maybe when they next increase the prices my contribution could go towards our new trophy cabinet or filling up one of Joe's Yachts

It's the entitlement that makes me laugh as if sitting in front of his computer for an extra minute is time consuming like he has to go down to the ticket office and queue up - HOW DARE THEY, DON'T THEY REALISE THAT OPENING UP AN EXTRA TAB ON CHROME EATS UP MORE RAM, I COULD BE WATCHING SOME PORN INSTEAD BUT NOOO #levyout :ROFLMAO:
