Do you think they offered decent terms? I mean Eriksen started off at a low base and reportedly on around 70k a week so i suspect perhaps 140k (best case at double but id think perhaps 100k)? which to you and I is a whole heap but think he can get a bit more elsewhere

Also there is the case that players are unable to resist RM and Barca. I wouldnt be so annoyed if he went to Barca but hugely annoyed if he went to RM. Hopefully if RM get Mourinho they focus on defence and attack and forget the midfield given the financial constraints they may have but in that case who do we sell to eh with one year remaining.
Trouble is, I guess when I said 'decent terms' that is a bit subjective and certainly I would have thought that Barcelona especially could offer more plus of course the lure of trophies. Thing is, if he does go, will we be able to identify a player who is at least of the calibre of Eriksen?

Of course we will. We're not going to buy such a player however

Poch will identify the players best suited to replace him, Levy will wait till the last day of the window and offer half what the club wants (as well as way under market rate) for the player. Then he says to the fans that it was all the other clubs fault for being unreasonable with demands and we will not be held to ransom. Plus the market is unusually hard this time.

For some reason, Levy seems to think that if he waits till the last minute, a club that didn't want to sell a player in the first place will suddenly accept way under the market value????

Personally, unless we can get mega money for him, I don’t see the point in selling him. If he wants to run down his contract then so be it. We aren’t going to be able to replace him if we sell him on the cheap, and even if we get the speculated 225 million, we will struggle to find someone as good.

It comes down to how much monetary value you place on his contribution over a season. Levy won't want to lose him for less than the big fee he can get now and would rather sell him now. I would rather keep him another season and give us time to replace him with the best option we can.

Nah hes a **** - he will break my heart :cry::cry::cry::cry:

So thats Dembele, Eriksen and Toby - thats half the spine of our team and really difficult to replace
Not too sure eriksens going anywhere judging by his comments below. Maybe we should stop listening to rumours as eriksen says in his comments.

Eriksen told TV3 Sport: “[The future is] not something I’m thinking of. I focus on playing football, and there are many battles you have to think about which must be won.
“It is not the first time that there have been rumours, and when the newspapers write something, it is not something we are masters of. If there is nothing concrete, then I just comment on rumours.
“I think people know what I want, and I know what they [Tottenham] would like. There is a nice dialogue so there is nothing [new] there.” (As reported by Goal.com)

And when we approach another club for a new player they will say "We'll take those 225 million thank you very much"

Dembele has not been prominent this year and we survived so id say our reliance on him is non existent. Toby was injured for a long period and we survived. Poch will make sure we survive and evolve as long as he is backed and here!

I think one of the great ironies here is that I am not sure that Real Madrid is actually a better spot - even if you want to win trophies.

Certainly, from a historical perspective, RM are giants. And from a financial perspective - it makes a lot of sense to go to Madrid - higher wages, higher marketing visibility, etc.

But, RM are a team in flux right now. And, they have allowed themselves to get to a position where it cannot be fixed simply by bringing in 1-2 key players. They need a complete overhaul.

And, when you have to make as many changes as RM will have to make - there are no guarantees that it works. No matter how expensive the players, or even how individually talented they are, its hard to blend that talent into a cohesive unit.

RM's second-leading scorer this season is Sergio Ramos...

Benzema - age: 31
Kroos - 29
Modric - 33
Marcelo - 30
Ramos - 32
Bale - 29

That is a lot of players who are getting too old/injured to consistently play at their best levels. Losing CR7 was just the first blow. Losing these players, even if you replace them with younger, high-priced, players will take time, and no guarantee the team will gel. Not to mention that competition for top players is much fiercer than in years past. Sure, RM are still a top destination - but there are other clubs who are equally as ambitious and willing to pay top wages and transfer fees.

Survival isn't progress though - are we here to survive or here to progress? You're right we will survive and I'm sure I am in tizzy over this but at the same time I'm not hiding the fact that they would be big and huge losses who wont be replaced easily

Well they are rumours but i guess we can only ever go on rumours. I wont lose sleep over it - I guess all this has just taken me by surprise maybe misdirection because all i ever heard about was Toby not having signed not Eriksen.

Plus with the TV money, clubs are even less desperate to sell.

Absolutely. Not much point in stressing - same with Poch - whatever he will do or not do, there is nothing we can do about it.

I think this consideration is actually our best hope of holding onto Eriksen -- not because he'll look at the intermediate-term future of the club and decide he'd rather stay, but because they'll be looking at the squad and deciding how they want to spend their transfer kitty. Ever since the market got blown up by the Neymar and Mbappe transfers, Perez has elected to buy young, relatively inexpensive talents instead of galacticos, which would suggest that even Madrid is in a position where they have to be strategic about how they use their transfer funds given the current conditions in the market.

With Isco, Kovacic, and James all at least potentially in the squad for whoever their new manager turns out to be, he may look at the list of players who need replacing and think that it doesn't make sense to spend a big chunk of his available funds on Eriksen. Madrid deciding not to pursue this transfer is really our only hope of holding onto Eriksen IMO, because it's clear that he wants the move.
