Really? ?
Its hard to argue they have 4 centre halfs...people aren't talking quality.

Utd have Baily, Smalling, Jones, Lindelöf and maybe more I cant remember.

Arsenal have mustafi, koscielny, Papawhatever, Holding, Mavrawhatever.

Its the same as when people said Dier could cover if we didn't sign a Walker replacement, or he could cover for Toby if he left. Versatility is great but you don't want to be reliant upon it and lay yourself too thin.

Davies is a great 5th choice CB. I suppose it is going to be based on whether Dier is going to be playing CB or CM in future.

If Dier is very much going to be a CM and we sell Dembele & Wanyama too, we need another CB

Vertonghen
Sanchez
Foyth

Davies

Dier
Winks

Dier as the 3rd/4th CB for me, primarily play 4-3-3 so you can use Alli/Eriksen as CMs and have Skipp, Winks, Sissoko and a new signing as CMs. Dier can play there as well of course if there's a few injuries.

Except Eriksen might be going too, so need to factor that in

This makes less sense the other comments.

Why exactly are you trying to say? Eyoma made his debut which is great but why say anything about Toby?
Just that poch likes to bring on youth and this like winks and skipp and walker-peters in the past is great. With it suggested that sanchez is toby's replacement it's good to see a another possible youngster given a chance. We are rightly proud of our youngsters in the academy and the promotion of an u18 world cup winner must be seen as another massive positive. Nb he's the 11th of that world cup winning squad to get his senior call up

Okay as it seemed like it was a dig towards Toby.

I agree love youth getting a chance too.

FYI Eyoma has his own player page too

I’m not arguing that they don’t have 4 CBS they can have 20 CBS but they are not better than what we have or the required standard

Yeah, I totally agree on that. The discussion was about numbers though and whether we needed to replace Toby.

If Toby goes our defence will be a lot weaker, he rarely makes a mistake would we be in third if we had sold Toby in the summer I very much doubt it. Have we not learnt from selling, Carrick, Berbabatov, Bale, Walker, selling our best players makes us weaker.

Forth and Sanchez are way off his level currently.

Totally different circumstances to all those other players you mention. We sold those because they made it clear they wanted out and we subsequently got great money for all of them.

We tried to tie him down to a new contract & he refused to sign. If the story is true, he actually went back on his word.
We haven’t chosen to be in this position.

If I have got things right.

Toby us on £50,000 a week

A top class replacement would be on what Toby wanted (say £150,000).

If we kept him until the end of the contract we lose £25m but save in the wage increase.

So the net lose of h staying to the end of his contract is £25 - (£100,000 *52).

That's £20m.

It doesn't change the sums much but...

Like I said in a early post, I would replace Toby with an up and coming player (Vertonghen long term replacement) and move Foyth up the pecking order.
That would leave more money to spend in other areas that are weaker imo
