I'd love to know if we're still trying to keep him. It makes absolutely no sense to 'save' money by not paying him what he wants, but then have to replace him with a player who costs a lot more than the £25m we'll get for selling Toby, and will inevitably be on massive wages anyway.
We won’t replace him with a player costing more than £25m and we won’t pay his replacement massive wages either. It’s amazing people still don’t understand Daniel Levy’s MO. He will sign a “prospect” perhaps Foyth is already this and expect Poch to work his magic so he can build another cheese room.

I think Sanchez was his replacement.

He may be now but that wasn't the idea at the time. We offered him a contract extension after we had signed Sanchez.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was half an eye on succession planning. But either way, it was a very shrewd transfer. The sort of thing I wish we were doing with Eriksen, because if he doesn't sign I have absolutely no faith in us spending the huge amounts of money needed for a top quality replacement, especially given the lack of investment in CM.

Surely a different perspective required here.
i agree that he has been monumental yet we will roughly double what we paid for him if the clause is met and we have had the pleasure of his interceptions however if theres no mutually beneficial agreement on the horizon we have to wish him good luck, and its irrelevant where he turns up after as its not in dictated to by the contract!

If Toby does go surely we are well stocked at CB with Vertonghen Sanchez, forth and Dier maybe a young up and comer should be brought in but I would rather we spend our money in the CM and fullback areas

We absolutely should buy another CB. Whether we will, I'm doubtful.

We need (should have already bought) a backup for Vertonghen. None of Foyth, Sanchez, or (and especially) Dier have been that good over 90 minutes at LCB in my opinion.

How dare you disrespect Ben Davies like that.

How would we have been this season if we'd sold Toby last summer?

Impossible to say?
Who are we realistically going to buy that are better now than Vertonghen Sanchez and foyth?
What does it say to the likes of Foyth if we never let him step up?

Well as Dier, Vertonghen, Foyth and Sanchez were all hurt at similar times we would have been fucked.

So how many CB should be have for next season 8/9? Big chunk out of our 25 man squad. We have also had a lot of injuries in CM should we have 8/9 of those as well?

Not heard that the £25m can be paid over 2 years?
Sorry Baz, I had very specific details of the agreement. I actually thought it was in this thread, but it must have been in one of my other groups. Probably Facebook. I’ve tried to find it but think I’ve deleted it but it smacked of the truth. 24 months to pay off the £25m over no more than 3 equal payments. Not something I’d make up. ?
