Not surprising but I am personally sad as I rate him highly and think he would be an ideal buy now to avoid a fight for later. I know the mo this window is "go English" because of our home grown quota but I really don't see many gettable homegrown midfielders that can take the step. Maaaaaybe Lewis Cook but imo he's regressed at Bournemouth this season.

Pinning my remaining hopes for a CM this window on Diawara. Won't happen but I don't see any of the better options happening either.

Yeah, rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament isn't helpful either.

Probably ties in with all the ITK prior to this that the 'supposed' view is young and English with the option to loan them back until the summer. Berge is a pipe dream.

The lines of 'more home grown' talent haven't gone away and the fact we're still stuck with so much dross hasn't either.

Considering people barely fucking knew who this guy was until his name came up latter part of last summer it's not big loss, it's more the fact there aren't more links like it.

He comes in that category of a player with talent that could become ...

Roma will probably buy him now.

The fact that a 20 year old playing in Belgium is becoming a pipe dream is really quite depressing but I have to agree.

Nope, it's a pipe dream due to the fact we're clearly trying to find this 'home grown' quota that keeps getting banded about. A move for anyone not English until either players are moved on etc seems/is like a pipe dream.

Surely we can make some easy inroads on the home grown issue by firstly letting Vorm leave and getting an English 3rd keeper, secondly by letting Llorente leave (as much as I love him), and thirdly by replacing someone like Davies who really isn’t a very good LB

GKN and Vinny have to go before Davies, but with you on the moving of players that really don't seem to factor in to anything of use for Spurs right now. Levy and Poch have to get on the same page (imo of course)

GKN and Vinny aren't in our CL squad, though, I don't think?

I'm sure the club could do with them off the wage bill, but realigning the HG quota in the CL squad surely must be a priority

I love how "not an option in Jan" has instantly become "never". It probably just means that Genk are not entertaining the possibility of selling him in January because they're having a good season and he's key to that.

They'd sell if the money was right for them. Right for us is zero :(

C'mon now, that would make way too much sense.

Plus it would remove the flaky excuse as to why we’re not after any non English players. As if we’d turn down say the new Modric because we’ve got Llorente and GKN on the books and can’t squeeze another foreign player in.

If we really wanted to, we could just tear up Vorm's contract. It's only got 6 months to run. We can also let players leave on loan for minuscule wage percentages like GKN etc, he won't be earning much anyway

Starting to think squad places is an excuse rather than a legitimate reason tbh. It has to be to do with finances.

As Berge is only 20 we wouldn't need to include him in the official squad this season. We could do this deal now and clear some players out in the summer if we really wanted to.

The HG quota thing will soon be a thing of the past. Vorm, Llorente, Dembele, Nkoudou, Janssen & Alderweireld will soon be gone and unless Wanyama finds a way back from his injuries he'll get going as well.

If Eriksen goes that's 8 non HG players moving on. I still can't believe that Dier or Davies aren't classified as HG, it is mental but sadly something we have to deal with

If Berge is a player we want I don't see a problem with a loan back type deal. The fact is that we have to sell to buy and the 2 most likely to go are injured, thus, not sellable. We're ticking along quite nicely with Winks, Sissoko and now Skipp chipping in and Dier due to return shortly. We don't have a record of playing purchases straight away either but at least this way the player would be ours for the whole pre season.

Definitely makes sense in terms of loaning back
