Madrid are smarter than that though, they aren't ManU. They know to wait til the summer where there will only be a year left and the price would drop significantly.

Wasn't coutinho in his last year at pool?

Lets all just hope real get neymar, barca get salah and eriksen hates french and italian food.
I personally don't want there to be that much money floating around the market, it fucks up the whole system and creates a domino effect within the transfer market. Best case is Real go get Hazard (for cash) and are happy with their midfield options.. I don't see Barcelona being a super realistic possibility because they have so many midfield options currently.

Seen nothing from kovacic to worry about them getting him personally
Think it's worth keeping in mind this is his first season in the PL and under a new manager who doesn't know the league. He is a very good player, not everyone adjusts straight away.

If he wants to go to Real Madrid then there's nothing you can do.
Reminds me of my ex who told me she didn't love me anymore and that she wanted to date the captain of our local rugby team.

I also don't think he's playing the right role for Chelsea. They want him to be the creative player in that midfield three but he and Jorginho really do the same sort of thing that is linking together play from a deeper position. Kovacic being more creative than Jorginho but not like and Eriksen/Silva/De Bruyne. He's more of an engine room player and Chelsea have three of those but no straight creator.

Thats my opinion of it at least.

Could just keep him, if he doesn’t sign then let him leave for free. Will we be writing off a £100m+ player, or will we have extracted 7 years of service from a phenomenal player having paid £10m in transfer fee and £25m-£30m in wages?

From the BBC:

"Christian Eriksen has assisted Harry Kane 18 times in the Premier League - only Frank Lampard to Didier Drogba (24), Darren Anderton to Teddy Sheringham (20) and Steve McManaman to Robbie Fowler (20) have assisted a team-mate more in the competition's history."

What a shit situation, just before we move into the new stadium.

It’s easy to say there’s nothing we can do. We have no replacement in the squad even half as good as our succession planning has been non existent in this regard. That’s something pro active we could have done which at least would have made it less of a blow to our whole team.

Things are obviously good at the moment, but the thought that despite a potentially successful season we could lose arguably our most influential player and even our manager in the summer is quite depressing.

How would we afford a replacement

Gut feeling is he is on Madrid's wish list but maybe there are a couple of players higher up on the list they'll try for first. If those don't come off for whatever reason, I think they will turn to Eriksen and unfortunately in that case, I think he will leave.
