After seeing him quite abit at Valencia and being impressed, not seeing him at all at Barca and now showing strong signs of adapting to the PL with Everton I'm gonna put it out there and say we dropped a bollock not bringing him in the summer.

A large proportion of our fans deemed him not worthy of our squad which was surprising considering he's been deemed good enough at Barca. Just watched him being interviewed on SkySports pre match and he comes across as one of the nicest, down to earth footballers i've seen being interviewed.

Anyway, he'll be discussed to death this window.

Everton manager Marco Silva insists the club will not be affected by transfer speculation surrounding Andre Gomes, after Tottenham were linked with the midfielder.

Gomes, signed from Barcelona on a season-long deal in August, has been in fine form for the Merseyside outfit since overcoming a hamstring injury and making his debut in October.

Gomes is class. We have to sign him. Perfect for us and not even a risk as he has shown he can cope with our league. Brilliant in Mersey derby and currently showing it again at City. I think the price is around £30m.

Still don't really understand why so many were against the idea of signing him on here. Been very good for Everton so far and it's a position we need to strengthen.

Said this in the Eriksen thread:

2+2=5 I’m sure, but Barcelona swooping for Eriksen I’m January with cash + Andre Gomes (who they don’t want but will be premiership ready and looks very good at that) makes a lot of sense. Eriksen has basically been playing at CM recently anyway.

JJ said it's not Barca and I tend to trust him, also depends on whether Andre Gomes can leave his loan deal halfway through but I agree with everything you said.

Gomes signed a season long loan , does that means he’s not eligible for transfer until his contract concludes ?

For the record it’s a s@@t trade off. We should do all we can money wise to keep hold of Eriksen.

I slated Gomes on here and said he would be another Sissoko...well I was wrong about the latter and it is starting to look like I was wrong about the former too.

He has been great for Everton apparently so I think I am starting to want him here...

Folks, don't get to taken by this link. Irrespective of the vast amount I have invested in Salt commodities since last TW in preparation for any ITK, info was posted in the 'transfer wishlist' thread that the reasons for not getting him this summer were beyond the obvious.

It was reported that Gomes had changed his agent in order to get out of Barca. But he is still Gestifute/Jorge Mendes. Could this be the reason? Does Barca want a buyback even though they want rid? Is this link coming now because Mendes wants to push Everton's hand with a perceived bidding war knowing that we are not interested?

Were we not interested because he was injured thus he wouldn't have gotten a preseason and missed out on 30% of his loan year? This would have been neither clever nor brave and actually particularly stupid considering the Barkley transfer should have given us a little hesitation with this move.

The question is will that give you pause the next time the opportunity arises for you to display your footie prescience? Or will it be full steam ahead?

I quite like what I’ve seen of him. Slow as shit, but a great technician. Would make a good squad signing for us.

I'm with you in the slated him all summer (multiple summers) department. My estimation of him has grown from he would be a terrible signing to a 'fine' squad signing.

Considering how awful he was at Barca most of the comments and fears about him were actually fair at the time so I judge it case by case.

Im sure you have never ill judged a player before right?

Been watching Everton’s last few games and I really think he will suit us well. I hope we do go in for him as he’s shown now he’s capable of putting in a great performance in the PL

People's reservations on here were no doubt exactly the same as Daniel Levy's, i.e. Gomes hadn't shown anything much for Barca and it was a risk bringing him into the EPL. He's done well at Everton and with hindsight we probably missed out. Would be a good acquisition now IMO but I doubt we'd go back for him.

The line people took was a fair one - a big risk based on his performances at Barcelona, off field problems like suffering with depression (Barca was "hell" I believe he's said) and he had an injury in pre-season that would keep him out for up to 2 months. However if he could rediscover his Valencia form it would be a potential bargain. Everton took the risk and it's paid off for them.

He actually wasn't 'awful' at Barca, if you watched. What was the problem was he didn't fit into their style of play and was incapable of adapting. But what he did have at Barca was the ability to control a ball; the ability to see a pass and actually play it with either foot; the ability to recognize pressure and protect the ball; the ability and desire to take the ball under pressure and work out of it. These are qualities independent of what his team or teammates do. These are qualities that you use to decide if he might be successful with your team. These are qualities you use to determine whether or not a player is 'awful'.

Just like Dembele doesn't actually fit their play (+ the behavioral stuff) and there are reports of him being available. The difference is Dembele scores goals and is a difference maker so the fans don't bitch because most are morons that only see goals and assists.

Feel like he would be another good player for the midfield but what we need is a great player for the midfield to take that next step up as a club.
