I haven't seen a lot of Gibbs-White but one thing he seems to have that Edwards never had is a change of pace. Whenever I saw Edwards as a kid the things that always worried me were (1) his size and (2) his lack of pace. Yes, he had absolutely beautiful ball control and that delicious low centre of gravity that lets him squeeze past players but you have to try and imagine him in a tactical system as a senior against grown men. As we've seen in the Netherlands, Edwards struggles to get away from players which is why play can often break down with him. If he doesn't draw the foul then he's a sitting duck for a turnover.

i had the same reservations but i think the one thing he has shown on his loan is that he can beat senior players, he actually averages more successful dribbles per game than any other player in the division and it's not like he's playing for a dominant team. there's a couple of examples in the video below(excuse the music) at 0:48 and 3:15 where he shows a decent turn of pace to get away from his defender, he'll never be super quick over long distances but in the areas he works in i think he's fine, if he can eke out an extra half a yard(whatever that means) over the next year or two then that would be ideal but if not then i don't think it will be much of an issue.

he "just" needs to add an end product to it all. i'm surprised he's struggled in that area as he's always been pretty reliable in the final third but right now he's overplaying and snatching at chances that he'd usually put away, it might not be the worst thing in the world that he now finds himself on the bench as he'll learn that he needs to start delivering on all of the crazy dribbling if he's to keep his place in the side.

We're all fans of Marcus. We all want him to come good.
hope for the best for him and Josh.
As an aside, the subject of your avatar had played right back, center def and center mid for us while under 21 - some perspective....Skipp may well be the next 1 through to the 1st team.

Love it when people are exposed.

Exposed ? wish I had time to troll through people’s every post. Life must be dull Blake. Tbh I said I see him as a Scott Parker type player and that remains the same. If he turns out to be Scott parker level he will be a very useful squad member. Do I think he will end up being a top draw CM not really. Do I think he could reach Parker levels possibly. As I said I’m optimistic but not going overboard on him.

You seem to have plenty of time to post knee-jerk opinions like “Skipp will end up being a Mark Noble type player”.

I do love all the crazy dribbling, he's got lovely feet, it's beautiful to watch. He does look like he's snatching his chances in the video, but he does look confident with his dribbling. Maybe just needs a goal or 2 to settle down into more graceful strikes than snatching. I don't think Pace will be all important to marcus' game. He has that ability to simply wrong foot defenders easily and it can look like he's just running through and past them, as well as the shifts and turns and quick feet.

Agreed. Can't help but think if we can't get something out of him then we're missing a trick. Still this loan seems to be a good one in the hit and miss world of loan outs, i hope he comes back a better player.

His ability to go past players in tight spaces and his great balance reminds me a bit of Ginola. As much as we have some very able players in our team, that additional bit of flair goes a long way in getting fans on their feet and behind a team at times.

I remember watching some very shit Spurs football and Ginola used to have a moment which lit things up.

Your comparrisons of dembele who has outrageous dribbling skills but is not the same level of passer as winks nowhere near. Jan Toby and trippier can all pass a ball but from deeper positions with more time. Aren't really relevant as the conversation is about who is technically the best midfielder at the club. 3 of who you mention are defenders and one is a dribble specialist. But not a passer.

[/QUOTE]

This doesn't make any sense. Dembele is a midfielder with a wider and more technical skill set. To beat a man, particularly in tight areas requires technique. Jan began playing in midfield for Ajax. If needed, he could play in midfield now as his technique would carry through. I'll not say anymore about the other two, but should of course included Eriksen. Winks is a good player, improving his overall matchplay and I'll leave it as that.
No we are countering @kremlyn saying that onomah is technically the best CM at the club.

Winks has been bought up as a comparrison only. But I feel he has shown he is technically better. Potential is nothing unless it is shown. Onomah has shown little.

Ive used winks as a comparrison, but both eriksen and alli are far better technically than onomah. Onomah hasn't shown that he's even in the conversation. Winks has. Potential is meaningless without demonstration.
Ok. I wasn't following this conversation. All I saw was that Winks is technically the best player at the club!

i doubt you'd have picked out many of our current first team when they were 17, also notice how the players you list are all quick, direct players who like to dribble, they will always be the easiest to catch the eye. you've also said a few times that you don't really see the fuss with skipp so i guess we'll see how that goes.

Yeah possibly agree regarding quick wow players. And I’ve never said anything of the sort about Skipp. I’m very optimistic about him.

Then Blake Quotes your post below

I know I’ll get horribly shot down for this. And this opinion isn’t just based on today. Probably seen Skipp play 5-10 times and can only remember 1 game I was really impressed think It was Dortmund or Real Madrid this year. I know he is very highly regarded but I’m struggling to see it. For sure there’s lots of endeavour. But I feel he’s going end up a bit of a Mark noble type player. Hopefully be a bit more Scott Parker but that’s how I see him. Obviously he’s only 17 but I’m really not seeing the hype right now. Loooking forward to being proved wrong though.

So yeah, exposed.

He didnt exactly have to troll through your post, he rememberd youre opinion on Skipp and called you out. If you cant call out other posters on their opinion then having an opinion is meaningless.

Imo, Parker level is Skipp's basement potential, but we'll just have to sit back and enjoy his development.

So yeah, exposed.

Is this what 14 yr olds do ? Oh I’ve exposed you nah nah nah ffs. Can people not change an opinion on a player ? Sorry I don’t remember every single post I make here I actually have a life too. People change their opinion on a player in the match thread 2 pages later. Does everyone get called out for that ? The original post was made last year during the UYL games. After seeing Skipp in pre season I became more optimistic. Oh but I’ve been exposed like a school playground ffs grow up. Blake could have just said but you said this last year without having to try and belittle me. That’s what grown ups do.

Grown ups (ffs!!) learn to assess things over a period of time, not change their entire opinion on a whim.......constantly.

Anyway, that's not what I was referencing. The that part he "exposed" you on, was that you said you had "Never said anything of the sort" in regards to not "really seeing the fuss about Skipp". Blake exposed that you actually had.

I'm not wound up at all. My comment about changing your opinion on a whim wasn't an isolated reference to just Skipp, but your opinions on players in general, you have history in regards to changing opinion from one way to another based on a singular performance.

Anyway, its derailed the thread now, so Ill just leave it be from here on.
