Or would Kane and Winks had the same opportunity at Liverpool? All depends on the circumstances prevailing at the time as to whether a youth player get an opportunity at a big club.

Agree, if KWP hasn't had a chance then neither would TAA. So despite the fact we know TAA is good enough to play in a CL final we know he still would have no chance here. That's why it's annoying when people have said for the last 4 years if they're good enough they will get a chance. It has nothing to do with ability and it's purely chance. Same with Winks and Kane. That's why I don't know why Poch is held in such high regard for bringing academy players through, and we keep getting told to just trust him. It's luck and only luck and I don't think if should be.

Trouble is every year that passes the pressure grows for poch to win something, anything.

And when he started it was he needs to give others chances, and build his own team first and now the reason changes. Maybe he should look at trying something different as what has happened so far hasn't worked

Roles should be given a look in for the senior bench given our injuries at the moment. Reckon he's a star and he might get some match time

He's a good player definitely, but through no fault of his own, I don't think, he hasn't played enough 23s and performed consistently well enough yet. This is his first proper season of u23 football I believe and we're still in September. He should have been playing more last year and maybe sought a loan this year. You can always use the size thing against him but that's the point of development he could have learned to deal with things last year.

u18s beat wolves 2-1 in the pl cup - white(pen) and lyons-foster(who also won the pen, which is the 3rd he's won this season strangely enough).

Decent game today

Oluwayemi - made one brilliant save after we messed up passing out from the back.

Tainio - had a good assured game at RB

Statham - looks a lot more like his u16 self. More assured than last season and not a liability. Was up against a good striker. More on that later.

BLF - scored with a great header, and has won 2 pens in 2 games. This one was definitely more of S pen. Got himself to the ball before the defender in the box. His normal calm self today

Cirkin - I think our man of the match. I think this kid is a really good LB. Very aware, takes his time, knows what he's doing, clever, decent dribbler. He put Shashoua through on goal with wb excellent chipped through ball over the defenders leg. Lot to like. Only downside he overhit a lot of his crosses.

White - had an excellent game, I think he's our best creative passer from deep since Carroll. Great awareness, vision and more importantly his execution seems good. Haven't seen enough to say if it's as good as Carroll's but very promising. Clearly a result of having played as a no.10 for a lot of his development. Released a lot of people with clever balls over the top and his set pie es are also very good. Took his pen very well.

Shashoua - another really good game. Good feet and hard to contain. Dies everything well and works hard.

Pochettino - did one skill I didn't expect by our corner flag, otherwise didn't do anything.

Patterson - I think was trying a bit too hard. Looked good in general but nothing really coming off for him

Clarke - was lively today and him and Cirkin were causing problems on the left, beat his man a lot and got quite a few crosses in however I feel he was a bit too selfish today and missed out on a few easy opportunities to slide players in, who were in better positions to go for it himself

Richards - has a very good game. I don't think he's a natural no.9 as he cones deep and links up play too much. Holds the ball up really well and particularly good at bringing it our of the sky. Can glide past players but didn't find himself in goal scoring positions today apart from once when he missed.

Subs

Okedina - first time seeing him play since joining full time and he came on at RB. Did well when he came on looked lime he knew what he was doing

Mukendi - his introduction sparked some life into our right side. Was trying to get into the box and causing problems. Good cameo

Cooper - NET

Really gutted I still haven't seen Thorpe pay since joining full time. Other than. Maybe a sub appearance.

What was interesting about this game as I thought that was a Samuels v Richards affair. Austin Samuels is Wolves' striker and he was in the England set up at u16s for the 00 age group before getting injured and hasn't been back in since. I thought it was interesting to compare Richards' development to his. Samuels definitely few off more scraps, he is very strong and held off our defence well and earned fouls for his team to get up the field and relieve pressure. Confident in his ability and was their main man. Took his goal very well. Considering Richards had never had a look in for England, I think he has made some good progress. Slightly different types of strikers. Samuels will let the ball off then turn, whereas Richards will lay off then provide another option elsewhere. I think his progress has been very good despite playing behind Griffiths all of last year and it's good to see he is on a comparably level to other top strikers in his age group. I think m Richards should be more selfish though and sniff out goals rather than looking to set them to for others.

marcus off after 71 mins, not his greatest game. was heavily involved in a lot of excelsior's attacking play in the first 20-25 mins but flitted in and out(mostly the latter) after that.

I missed the first half hour, but I agree definitely wasn't a great one. Think he just had a poor game, the dribble near the end on the counter when he took the heavy touch summed up his performance really.

Probs the wrong thread but am I right in saying Sessegnon, Sancho, Foden, TOB, Angel Gomes, Hudson-Odoi, Brewster and Griffiths are all from the same age group? Is it just luck or is there a reason why this age group in particular is ridiculously talented? It it linked to anything the FA did?

yeah they are. it's the result of the improvement being made at grassroots level in this country but it is also luck to get so many in one age group. the most impressive thing about that group is the depth of talent, england could take a 2nd squad to a major tournament and they'd have a good chance of making it to the final. i rate skipp and lyons-foster as probably our two best coming through and both generally miss out on being in the squad so that shows the level they're competing with.
