It's been over two years since his last cap for Brazil.

If their manager delayed his selection a few days then Lucas surely would have been in it. The squad was announced a few days before our game vs Man Utd.

Next international break should see his return.

Too many of our players are in danger of being burnt out. On a selfish point of view, I'd rather he be ignored by his national team.

I doubt Lucas is in danger of burning out as he hardly played last season and he didn’t go to the World Cup.

I'm going to put my neck on the line here and say Lucas will score & assist over 20 Premier League goals this season ??

I've yet to read the full quote Moura has given. Just a few select snippets quoted to make a headline. Along the lines of 'Brazil needs a change' and that Bolsonaro isn't racist or he'd be in jail, and isn't saying the same things as other politicians. Etc.

He s entitled to his own political view of a politically messy country that he is from anyway. You might not agree with his views, but he's allowed to have them. It has no significance over his on pitch presence or his role for spurs.

Maybe you should have a look at what the guy he is supporting stands for and not just rely on what some dumb footballer said?

The main problem isn't his personal opinion. The problem is that he is using his large platform to promote his political views. When he does that his political views becomes my problem.

I doubt very much that the guy who was tweet quoted earlier knows much about Brazilian politics, given that all he's done is screenshot the guys wikipedia. And Wikipedia isn't exactly the must trustworthy of sources. Lucas also hasn't said he backs all of this guy's policies.

The extent to which people want to polarise political opinions is ridiculous right now. It's harmful and dangerous. The new left position themselves as liberal and open minded yet as soon as someone says anything that flies even a little in the face of what they believe they want to shut down all discussion. Free speech as long as you say what we say. It's really unhealthy, and dangerous.

It's amazing how many of our fans on social media have suddenly become experts on Brazilian politics and what has been going on in that country for years.

Whilst a lot of what Bolsonaro stands for is wrong (really wrong), you really have to understand what the climate is like there before crucifying Lucas. EVERY politician is corrupt and completely untrustworthy, the people's favourite is in prison and currently out of the running (him and his party royally fucked up the country when last in power), the current President is under investigation for corruption and the situation in Rio continues to get worse and worse. If the country continues the way it is then it could become extremely unsafe and unruly.

The people have a really tough decision, do they continue supporting corrupt politicians who change nothing and gradually make the country worse off and even more unsafe? Do they vote for a fascist who will change a lot of things (crime, etc) but could also effect lots of ppl with his radical views? It's a complete and utter mess and this country is in desperate need of a shake up. Obviously a fascist regime is really NOT what you want but you have to understand how completely disillusioned people are there. It's pushing them to the edge.

I think this Nathan is being a bit silly posting this and highlighting it.

Why does it matter if he knows much about politics in Brazil? He is only showing what kind of person Lucas is supporting. I don't need to know about Brazilian foreign policy to look at a single individual and get a grasp on what he is. Wikipedia is actually a pretty good source of information since you can check the sources of any article.

Oh and who is trying to shut down discussion here? As far as I can tell nobody is saying Lucas can't think or say what he likes. But if you do use your platform and speak out about that you support a fascist expect people to react to that. And if you are such a fucking snowflake that you can't handle people disagreement maybe don't openly support a fascist.

The whole idea of outrage culture being exclusive to the left is so dumb. Have you seen the daily mail? Fox News? Outrage culture is nothing new and is not exclusive to one side of the political spectrum.

Also, liberals are not left.

I remember Nathan Clark from another forum talking about how he fingers his arse during a wank.

Now he's an expert on Brazilian politics, what a journey that is

Counting down until one of the rags picks up on this - and then we'll get the Liverpool and Arsenal crazies all over Twitter saying Lucas is a fascist.

What it comes down to is fascist populists like this Brazilian dude always prosper during a time of national crisis where people lose faith in moderate politicians. When you plug in Lucas' devout religion, and probably conservatism, it's not that surprising.

I honestly couldn't give one toss what his political opinions are - particularly in a country of which I know very little about it. I only care what he does on the pitch.

It matters quite a lot when the whole political system in Brazil is a mess and the frontrunner is a guy with a conviction for corruption and may not be able to stand for election.
