I was thinking the exact opposite, pretty sure they are wearing the replica kits in those pics.

You're right (y) I'd seen a picture of Edwards where it looked like his shirt had the gold coloured tag, it must've just been the lighting.

Always thought it a little strange that only the first team get the proper shirts!

Not a great picture, but Jonathan De Bie was wearing an orange kit last night which is presumably the as-yet-unreleased away goalkeeper - purple wouldn't be much of a contrast against the navy outfield kit

From that shot, it looks like last years 'keeper kit doesn't it?

Last year's were yellow/black and green/white (plus a black/white third which was never used but sometimes appears on eBay).

We had a similar shade orange one in the last Under Armour season

What’s the elite version?

Are we seriously charging extra for a better quality shirt? Seems very cynical.

Apologies of we’ve been doing this for years and I’m being a bit of a noob here as haven’t got a shirt for yonks.

We've done it for a few years, at least since Under Armour's first season.

Essentially, you're right. Replica shirts are just that, replicas made with cheaper materials than the elite shirts that are exactly the same as what the players wear for matches.

Wonder if other teams do it?

Football really can make you feel quite cynical as they really do grab as much money from you as possible.

Yes they do. It's also probably Nike more than Tottenham Hotspur dictating prices etc. They're the ones making most money out of shirt sales.

Spot on, although I believe we actually wore the UA orange GK shirt in 13/14 and it carried over for a few seasons and was used sporadically in place of the newer GK kits (there must have been a couple of kit clashes at some point).

If you look closely at your pic of De Bie you can make out the stripe design on the elbow and the design on the socks that is the same as the new purple/lime GK kit, so i reckon you are right about this being an unreleased GK kit (y)

These have existed going back as far as Puma, but they haven't always been on sale so easily.

There have been player spec shirts going all the way back to Hummel, but with those the differences were minimal (embroidered crest instead of printed on, double stitching in places). The Adidas, Kappa and Puma kits all had a player spec version different to the replica's (if you see an Adidas shirt with an 'Equipment' tab it's a player shirt, same as Kappa shirts with a 'Gara' tab). Back in the day they used to just put these out in the Park Lane Spurs shop after the seasons end.

Charging extra for better quality isn't something I have a problem with. I do take issue with the fact that the only way you can get a shirt that even looks the same as the one the players wear is by spending £90 on the elite version. It's a piss take.

Surely you only buy the elite shirt if you're hoping to get a game

If you was in with a chance of getting a game they would be giving you all your kit for free no? ;)

Personally I get the player spec shirts because I have a bit of an obsession with collecting the kit and the player versions are made in limited numbers and in the case of the older shirts are much harder to come by than the replica's.

It just seems that the elite version is more for people who will wear it for sports whereas the other one is for general wear. If I was collecting shirts I'd probably wait until they're in the sales but hey it's your money of course. Just seems so expensive for that version.

I've never payed full price for a player shirt... Last year I got the Away and Third elite's for less than the RRP of the replica's, was holding out for the end of season to pick up the Home shirt in the hope that there would be some unsponsored versions about .

That was a different orange kit in 13/14 (we also had a lime green one in the same template).

Under Armour released 3 keeper kits in their first season, and then after that, only ever released 2 and re-used one from the previous season as an emergency third (yellow in 13/14, orange in 14/15, grey in 15/16, yellow in 16/17).

I completely forgot about the orange GK shirt in 16/17... the one with the navy stripe on each arm with the same template in sky blue as the home, right?

That's the one!

I expect Nike will have a third colour, in their latest template, 'in reserve' like last season. To my knowledge, the only place the black third kit was officially unveiled last season was as an illustration in the Premier League handbook!

Watching the players in preseason tonight, the kits have grown on me quite a bit. They aren't as horrendous as they are in the still shots.
