It was awful to watch, overrun in central midfield and all we did was bring on more attacking players. Southgate dropped a bullock with this one, no plan B.

It's quite similar to a number of our biggest games in the last few years. Gareth (like Poch) went with the mentality of being brave and we were brave and they deserve good will for that but the nagging feeling will always be there that the line between bravery and naivety was crossed. The late subs, and watching the game unfold drift away from us.

I think they believed that if we ride out the pressure, we would have a spell of our own again where we can impose ourselves but that never happened. Croatia kept flooding forward and grew in belief because we allowed the game to get too open and out of our control. They deserved the win.

We can commend the team all we want for a fantastic achievement to reach the semi’s but we rolled over and died... Modric was running the show and we didn’t react. Walker was pants at the back, Henderson useless and Rashford, Christ he was diabolical when he came on. I’m not a massive fan of RLC but we were crying out for an extra body in central midfield. Bearing in mind we had 3 centre backs and 2 wing backs, Young and Tripps were nowhere to been from the 2nd half onwards. God knows what Southgate was thinking as Croatia were there for the taking but he didn’t have a clue what to do.

The players made people believe in England again - and that was in not small part down to the Spurs contingent.

Nobody expected anything from this World Cup and Kane & Co restored our national dignity and pride.

When the dust settles people will realise this team did what the likes of Shearer, Owen, Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard, Seaman and various others of the supposed “golden generation” came close to - and they’re still kids, which means they have more potential in the future than Lineker, Gazza and company has in ‘90.

So the typical English arrogance once again comes back to bite us in the ass. We were totally outclassed in midfield which at this level is where the games are won and lost.

All this bollocks about it’s coming home which for the fans to say is one thing but when you’ve got average pricks like Lingard joining in you’ve got to wonder what the hell is a professional footballer adding that extra pressure on his own team for?

To the people saying, we’ve exceeded expectations in this tournament. Ask yourself this, if we hadn’t of beaten Tunisia, Panama and Sweden would that have been viewed as a travesty? We’ve played two good teams and lost them both. national heroes my arse. Trippier aside, our boys were crap tonight.

First comment I’ll make all
World Cup.

Think we’ve over performed considering our talent and boy could we do with an Eriksen or even a Coutinho.

Still don’t understand why Kane played the last two games as a 10? He should lead the line. He was shagged by 60.

H was battered and clattered in every game he played.

I wish Hugo the best but Im rooting for Croatia. Modric is one of the best players of his generation and I would love to see him captain Croatia to a WC championship.

They should scrap the third-place playoff. It's a meaningless game.

Absolutely. It’s not the Olympics where teams/individuals play for a bronze medal.
Just means 2 massively disappointed, physically & mentally fucked squads have to hang around for 3 more days to play a meaningless game, when all they want to do is heal their wounds.
But hey more money for fifa, so never gonna happen.

We should have been 3-0 up at half time. Lingard missed a great opportunity too.

But on a wider note: I've said for many tournaments now that it's not going out that is what has lost people's faith. It's the way we do it - without playing with spirit or courage. In this tournament we have tried to play football and tried to take risks. That's what has got people's hopes up. Gareth Southgate's leadership has brought back the spirit for the national team. There are areas to improve and we have two years to work on it. He's the man.

I thought we did very well to get to the semi finals with a very limited side. Credit must go to Southgate for this.

Both teams will pick players who haven't had a chance to play yet in that match. Unless Kane and Lukaku are desperate for the golden boot

We beat Tunisia, Panama and Sweden. It’s the equivalent of our run to the FA cup semi final this year, please enlighten me as to where we’ve over achieved because I really can’t see it right now?

You can only beat what is front of you. My expectations for this World Cup was for England to get out of the Group Stage and see what we did in the second round. I think we overachieved as we aren't a particularly good side.

I agree. It's been masked somewhat by him still being a very good player so at the end of the season for Spurs he was still picking up tap ins and now with England he's been poaching, drilling home penalties, and been at the forefront of this nice journey through the tournament..... But lets draw a line now, I don't want this subdued version of Kane back at Spurs in the new season. I want him at 100% roughing up defenders, being a complete striker and focal point up top. If he needs a long rest, if there is something (eg. his ankle) that still needs fixing, then I hope we get it done - rather than keep flogging him to death as short term measures.
Rooney syndrome parallels, great young, physically-strong striker and versatile player, who gets worn down by too many demanding PL games.

Their physical strengths can become their weaknesses in the end, because defenders will happily use their own physicality against players like Kane, and it will take its toll.

Hope we protect Kane, and rotate him, including PL games, during the season.
