I honestly wouldn't be surprised that this offer was submitted a few days/weeks ago. SSN usually last on to transfers. Later tonight/tomorrow they'll be reporting that it was rejected I guess.

Question...

Even if we get him for £15m, do you think we should invest this elsewhere instead? I am thinking that Martial would be a better option anyway with regards to investment. I suppose there was an argument about budgets, but seeing as the Stadium has not got it's PR name yet there may be some tricks up Levy's sleeves?

I can't see United letting us have Martial unless we pay a ridiculous amount.

Think we'd all rather Martial but the truth is United won't sell and we can get Grealish for dirt cheap and he's English so it's a win/win for the club.

I assume with the likely sales of the likes of GKN, Janssen and Lloretne alone will cover the transfer fee for Grealish and with some change. These guys had zero impact for us last season or the year before. I'm happy with this transfer as it won't take much from out transfer budget as ITK have previously claimed we aren't evening relying on sales!

They could get £20-25m for him - don't for a second believe we're the only club interested.
Nobody else genuinely confused by these fees? Will Hughes, who from what I've read on him seems a similar prospect to Grealish, had more caps for the U21's, same position, etc. Went for 8 mil last summer to Watford. Is Grealish really 2 or 3 times the player Hughes was? Not trying to stir everything up again just figured it was an interesting discussion point.

Maybe we're the only club who has put the money upfront when they need it most? I agree with you but I wonder if this has caught other teams offguard and they didn't budget for it, Leicester already spent a tidy sum.

Definitely a tester amount from Levy, as some have said on here I can imagine it realistically being £25-£35m. I saw Chelsea and one other are interested too but I just cannot see it happening, it is not a 'big enough' name for them and they have not even utilised Barkley yet. We know they love to swoop in on our targets though.

It's not a reach to suggest the player would prefer us to Leicester or Fulham, or even Chelsea, and I still doubt they'd ever get £30m.

£20m plus add ons sounds fair to all parties, as much as Villa rate him, he's still a championship player right now, and has anyone ever left that league for over £20m? (from a team that hasn't just been relegated)

Think that's a mixture of prices inflating massively over the last year and the fact Derby sold Will Hughes on the cheap. Think he had a bad record with injuries and Derby thought'd they'd cash in (to a lesser Premier League side). Had we been interested, his price would have probably exceeded the £10m mark?
