any chance we get him significantly less than £50m?

If his contract wasn't into the last twelve months you'd expect to pay £50m for him. As it's rapidly running down we'll pay around half that. Maybe a bit more, maybe a bit less, but as soon as he soon as he signs we'll have a player on our books that we could sell for significantly more than we paid for him.

Nothing changed with this one. We are still just waiting on Everton, and we are looong way down the road as far as the player part is concerned

Cheers Trix and JJ this is one I am very interested in seeing play out. I think some on COYS mentioned and I've seen a couple of Chelsea "itks" say Barkley is their Ox alternate if Arsenal stick their feet in. Apply box of salt. Of course as Chelsea fans they've never heard of a player turning them down before, but if Chelsea panic and throw the money bag at Everton things could get drawn out.

The real advantage we have here, is that Barkley seems to want to come to us. If we leave him at Everton for 6 months, how will he feel about that? It'll be bloody miserable for him. Then in the Jan window, when L'arse or someone else is desperate and offers massive wages, will his goodwill towards us still be strong enough to make the difference? We should buy him now, let him rehab in our fantastic facilities, and become a fully-integrated part of te squad before he kicks a ball in anger.

I see where you're coming from but if the injury is as bad and Everton still expect to get 20 mill plus for him, then all the risk associated on his recovery is left with us.

From all the ITK, it's clear that he wants to come work with Poch and not for the money. If after 3+ months of rehabbing changes his mind and he decides to join another team in January because they offered more money , then he really didn't want us rather he just wanted out of Everton.

Bloimey, presumed things would have to move on for them financially once Siggi joined. Just playing silly buggers now?!

Can you point to a report about his supposed injury that doesn't originate from the Daily Mail article ? I have seen nothing from Everton or from elsewhere, other than the Mail, to suggest his injury is serious.

Nothing from Everton, but BBC, Telegraph, Mirror, Star etc all reporting bad injury and possible operation.

Just to point out this injury happened a week ago tomorrow. If he needed an operation he's not got to go on an NHS waiting list. It would have happened by now.

Mate says since he was initially told it was not a serious injury his camp has gone very quiet on the extent of the injury and just say "it's not a problem".

I'm fairly sure if it was a grade three tear or similar they would say as hiding it is pointless. It's not like we wouldn't notice. The fact Everton are still 'waiting for test results' a week later, and the fact his people are still saying it's not a problem, tells me this is not a serious injury at all.

They are still very much expecting it to happen.

I could be wrong, but wasn't he just recovering from an injury before this popped up. Surely he wouldn't have been in a position to do more serious damage to himself?

I think the theme of what @Trix is saying is that when a player like this is in a transfer situation there are injuries and "injuries" -- don't believe everything you hear

Would have made a difference today
Are you gonna do this in every thread that "would have made a difference". Cause this is second one I've seen but it got me giggling because you are so f*cking right. Just imagine a ball actually going into the 10 hole and not bouncing back. Or perhaps actually being controlled and driven at their backline. One can dream I guess.

Spurs face competition from Chelsea in £20million Ross Barkley bid

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing a £20million bid for injured Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, but still face competition from Chelsea.

Despite the fact Barkley is set to be out for three months after tearing his hamstring in training, Spurs are readying a formal offer for the 23-year-old.

Talks between Tottenham and Everton are expected to take place this week, with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy prepared to pay £20m up front, with the possibility of a further £8m in add-ons.

But, despite leading the chase for much of the summer, Tottenham and Levy do not have a clear run at Barkley with Chelsea also expected to make a bid of their own.

Chelsea have followed Barkley for many years and view him as a potential long-term signing who represents excellent value for money in the current market.

The interest in Barkley is not dependent on whether or not Chelsea sign Danny Drinkwater from Leicester City.

Everton wanted £50m for Barkley at the start of the summer, but were never likely to attract bids of that size with the England international entering the final 12 months of his contract.

The Goodison Park club still hoped to get £30m for Barkley a couple of weeks ago, but his latest injury has put them in a difficult negotiating position.

Levy did not want to pay more than £25m for Barkley, but now believes an initial fee of £20m, with the promise of £8m in add-ons, represents a fair price.

Tottenham banked around £4.5m from Gyfli Sigurdsson’s move to Everton, because of a 10 per cent sell-on clause, that could go straight back to the Toffees as part of the £20m Barkley fee.

It remains to be seen whether Chelsea will better that offer and the Premier League champions are not tied to such a strict wage structure, and could pay Barkley £100,000-a-week.

Tottenham see the attraction of working under manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has an excellent record for developing English talent, as a major advantage in their bid for Barkley.

Pochettino also believes he can offer Barkley better guarantees of playing time at Tottenham, even though he would start out behind the likes of Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Mousa Dembele.

Just seen this myself. £20m plus £8m in add ons sounds good enough to get us on the negotiating table at the very least. Hopefully this will step up a notch this week.
