Barkley Has Surgery On Groin Injury

Ross Barkley underwent surgery today on his groin, with the injury having prevented him from travelling with the Everton team last week to Tanzania and this week to Holland. The surgery has been a success and he is expected to be able to return to play in approximately four weeks.

Ramiro Funes Mori has had a problem within his knee and has undergone further surgery in Barcelona which will require prolonged rehabilitation of a minimum of six to nine months. The defender tore his meniscus while on international duty with Argentina in March.

I'd imagine this is why there's no rush to get him in then.

Wonder who option 2 was if is one at all. I don't want Barkley but if he's one Poch wants fair enough. However if he's unable to start full training for 4 weeks and having had no pre season it makes the price even harder to swallow. It could be September before he's even ready to start a game and he's in final year of contract.

If it's gonna happen this has last day of window written all over it.

I would guess that puts an end to any interest.

Absolutely no point in signing him this window if he's not going to be fit til the season starts, and then gonna need Poch-conditioning and learning the system.

This has deadline day written all over it now I think.

Can see Everton dropping their asking price pretty drastically now. Nobody else will touch him injured, so they can't instigate a bidding war. They know we can agree a deal in January (I think) so they know now is the only time they can get any substantial cheddar for him.

All jokes aside, we need some medical expertise on this thread, because a 4 week recovery from a groin injury sufficiently serious to require surgery feels optimistic.

And if Barkley is out for a couple of months, that really does change Poch's preparations for the new season and Levy's calculations on the price he's prepared to pay for a player in the last year of his contract.

We'd also have to make sure he's 100% recovered before we'd pay what would be big money. Also after surgery lots of players tend to pick up little other injuries when back too. With Dele banned we really needed a player integrated and fully prepared for those games, that doesn't sound possible for Barkley.

What the hell is going on?

He could have had that operation weeks ago.

All very strange.

Yup, that's seriously odd timing to put it mildly.

Did he trip over his towel while sunning himself by the pool?!

Are Everton trolling us and he'll end up signing a record deal for them as the window shuts?!

This summer seems to be trolling us so far...

I think this fucks Everton's bargaining position, and plays into Levy's hands.

Even if Barkley signed today, the only pre-season he can have is listening to and watching Poch's tactical preparations, pressing routines, etc.

The likes of Chavski and Manure will probably drop their interest, and Levy can afford to do the deal close to the deadline without pissing Poch off too much.

But with Dele suspended for the first 3 CL games and Lamela & Son recovering from injuries, it leaves us potentially short at AM.
