Although I am in the ' worried about Wembley' camp, I think it would have been a massive ask to have repeated anything like the record at WHL again next season - it really has been something special and a once in a lifetime season there I think.

We might as well get over this, we'll never play home matches on anything but a 105x68 again.

Poch is a top manager, you've got to think he'll tweak our tactics slightly next season.

I think we will finish 6th next season the stadium will take time to get used to while other teams will get inspired playing there.
A step back next but then it's move forward from there on in.

Unfortunately, it has turned in to a 'thing'. Mainly by virtue of opposition fans and the media drawing attention to it, but that doesn't really matter. What matters is that at the moment it's a monkey on our back. It'll therefore be absolutely critical that we put it to bed in our first home game. Win that, and we can pretty much start afresh with Wembley as our temporary 'home; if we lose, or even draw (unless it's against a top 4 side), and the attention it'll receive will be a real test...

It's definitely this.

Hopefully we will get a couple of favourable fixtures first up.

I actually think it will really drive our players on. They seem to like proving people wrong.

For some reason though I'm not as concerned about it as I was. Probably because our last 3 performances there have been good. CSKA, Gent which we should have won and the semi where we were ok.

Absolutely no...If we get 4 points in remaining two away games, we would have 5th best away record, better than Arse. Thats not bad at all.

You say "absolutely no" then follow it with evidence contradicting your "absolute" point.

We have the best home record in the league. Yet presumably the best we achieve away from this season is get the 5th best record. You probably ignored where we currently stand in terms of away record just to make your point a little more "absolute".

Factually, we're not as good away from home as we are at WHL. We can all speculate as to why. It could be a variety of things. But there is certainly nothing absolute about your opinion that it isn't down to the pitch sizes.

I replied 'absolutely no' to this quote - "Is there's evidence our away form is down to the pitch size?"

If you have concrete evidence please share it...Otherwise, I do not understand why you got so worked up here.

Btw, having the 5th best away form is not a bad thing. Its not the best but its not the worst either. There is simply no corelation to pitch size & away performance. We need to improve against other rivals away from home. And that is nothing to do with pitch size

Fortunately, this is a non international tournament summer so Poch can have a full preseason. To ignore the importance of pitches is naïve.

At the training ground, the club has a dedicated pitch to replicate EACH of those at away grounds. That's a fact which anyone who has attended a tour of Hotspur way will tell you. That's how important our management team view the variation of pitches.

I am sure this summer, our "home" training ground pitch will sized to mirror that of Wembley. That in addition to playing every other week there will improve our familiarity with it. Attacking wise, we're OK at Wembley. It's defensively, that we struggle. We're wide open. We concede far more there and whatever the reason, we need to sort that out asap.

Well this may be news to you...We already trained on Wembley dimensions this season to for CL games. We do need to sharpen defensively. When I see failings in Wembley, its not down to how we approach the game. We did not sieze our moment or lost concentration in a moment but in general our general play has been good. I remember us missing chance after chance against Leverkusen & Monaco. Again against Chelsea, we did 2 mistakes got punished for it.

I see this more of a mental thing than physcial dimensions of pitch. I believe this can be solved if we get some time to settle in. Hence hoping for not so tougher fixtures early part of season.

Also, key to note is how our team has to switch between 2 home stadiums quite frequently. Atleast next season, consistently there will be just one home stadium to worry about.

Let me try and address both your replies:

1. There is no such thing as "concrete" proof when discussing reasons for form in football. I presume you're not so foolhardy to expect that, are you? For example, if I asked you for concrete proof of your opinion that it's a mental issue, would you consider me someone to have a meaningful debate with or just someone making an idiotic point to make themselves look clever?

We're discussing reasons for form. The evidence is the form and that the pitch sizes are bigger at opposing grounds. The rest is opinion. So, again, there is nothing absolute in denying it *could* be down to pitch sizes. Same if anyone was denying your opinion it is down to mental weakness.

2. Regarding us having Wembley sized training pitches. How often do you think we trained on them? Considering it was just 4 midweek games. You factor in the rest period between the weekend game and the CL/EL game, would you say it was fair to assume we trained on it only a handful of times and even then it that was sporadic compared to our "home" replica WHL pitch?

Again, if you're going to have a debate, please do so without asking for concrete evidence. None of us have it. If we did, there would be NO DEBATE.

From official website FAQ

Q: What are the dimensions of the pitch in the new stadium?

A: The pitch dimensions will be 105m x 68m which are in line with the standard specifications as set by UEFA and FIFA

It's not the size of the pitch, it's how you use it :cautious:
In other words, it not the size or the gun, its the effect of the bullet :cautious:

Wet Spam 9 points less at home this season compared to their last season at Upton Park.

It's quite likely that next season and the season after in new WHL that we'll have 9 home points less than this season. That would currently put us in 4th position.
We are not West Ham

I see no reason for us to not continue our great form tbh - we should be aiming for top 4 at least and a cup win.

We're playing in the best stadium we could have hoped for before we move to the new Lane. We'll have the highest capacity home ground of any team in the country. I can't see it being anything other than a good home ground for us.

Paul Merson of all people made an excellent point this morning about Tottenham and Wembley

I know , I know, he's a Gooner gambling drunk but hear me out.

He said the fixture list will be so important for Tottenham because if we can avoid the likes of Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal in our 1st 4/5 home games at Wembley then that will give the team and fans a chance to build up confidence and get used to surroundings against the lower ranked teams in the league, obviously we'll need to win those games to gain that confidence but if we do Merson said ( and I am beginning to agree with him ) then there is no reason why we cannot challenge for the league next season as we have probably the best XI right now and one of the strongest squads.

Considering we could do with a few favourable home fixtures to get us started at Wembley, you can pretty much bet your house on our first 3 home games being absolute stinkers.
