I wonder if the Peace Cup is still open to applications?
I think the Europa is the one that got away this season even more so than the FA Cup
It reminds me a little of when Murray was searching for that first major title. I just felt that every time he came up against Federer in a final he was beaten before he'd stepped out on the court.
Then you'd see Djokovic winning his first major against Tsonga in the Australian - and you thought that's what Murray needed - to go up against someone as unsure as himself.
Of course in the end he'd defeat a slightly off colour Djokovic for his first US Open, that being before Djokovic became the dominant force.
I just feel we need a break, and to maybe just snatch that first one with a bit of luck, and almost fall over the line.
Whilst it would be great if financial fair play could operate properly to prevent teams like Man City and Chelsea gaining this advantage, in the very short term I'm going to have to temporarily ditch that principle, because if I had to choose who wins this years FA cup out of the three teams left in it, there is no doubt that I will choose Man City every day of the week. It's true that we lack the experience to cope with pressure in these situations and that will improve in time... however...
Most teams win trophies because they've spent huge amounts of money. When we come to a game like this it's not rational to expect to win, the deck is so profoundly stacked against us it requires a huge effort and lots of luck. Furthermore, if we had have won, we'd have to do it again against an equally wealthy club.
No matter how good we are, when we go head to head against a motivated team that outspends us 3X+ we'll lose more than we'll win. Some teams might develop a knack of beating rich clubs but they don't do it consistently in high profile matches.
So you either wait until it all aligns for us (as it did under Redknapp when we qualified for the Chumpions league [and that was when Mancity had only a years worth of finanical doping]) or we try to create a situation where teams like Man City and Chelsea don't exist.
Financial fair play just seemed to be designed to keep the rich teams at the top and to prevent any other teams joining their elite group. Incredible as it may seem the football authorities and the media just want utterly predictable football with the same teams on top each season. Boring, boring, boring. Just like their beloved Arsenal!Whilst it would be great if financial fair play could operate properly to prevent teams like Man City and Chelsea gaining this advantage, in the very short term I'm going to have to temporarily ditch that principle, because if I had to choose who wins this years FA cup out of the three teams left in it, there is no doubt that I will choose Man City every day of the week.
Yeah, I agree, it's game management. Knowing when to stick or twist, all that stuff. But it only comes with experience. And this squad is getting more seasoned, slowly but surely.Yeah I agree to a point and especially your last paragraph.
To use your tennis analogy though, sport is all about big moments.
It's like a tennis player who seems to dominate the match, but fails to convert enough break points or serves a double fault at a crucial time. The player who plays the important points well tends to win the match.
Until we can do this we'll always be "nearly there".
I think we need an exorcism or something
That's 7 on the bounce and I've been to every bloody one
It's absolute bollox
