Bentaleb loan becoming permanent?

I've just read an article claiming that Bentaleb is one appearance away from activating a clause that would mean Schalke have to sign him for £16m. I was aware of the fee, should they wish to make it permanent, but not of this supposed clause.

Anyone know whether this is true?

it's true but it's not clear whether he'll agree or has agreed to the deal. regardless of the clause he still has the final say.

One has to guess that he would stay there though. He seems to be enjoying his life and role there, while as he would undoubtedly come back to Spurs to struggle for games.

this article from a couple of weeks ago suggests he's not so sure about staying -

i think he probably is happy there but at the same time he does have confidence in his ability so may think he can do better, whether that's with us or elsewhere i guess we'll find out soon.

Apparently he's been a bit of a mixed bag this season, moments where he's looked the part and periods where he's been a liability, not unlike his time with us, 16m would be a great fee in my opinion.

Scored 5 and assisted 5 this season - get him back!!

On a serious note, £16m is a lot of money for a player that right now, doesn't improve our team. Take the money and wish him well.

that implies we could use that 16m and sign someone that would improve the 1st team but unless we get lucky with a dele alli type punt on some kid or a player running down his contract(wanyama) then that's clearly not the case.

this move is a mistake if it goes through. nabil is the cm equivalent of danny rose a few years ago, a player with a perceived heightened opinion of himself but one with all the tools to become very, very good. like rose he is still young and has a couple of flaws but they shouldn't be used to define him, there's no reason he can't work on them and eradicate them from his game. spurs fans always say we need to look for a long term dembele replacement and here we are virtually giving one away(i'm sorry but 16m in this market is nothing for a 22yo with nabil's talent). although, unlike dembele he isn't petrified of the opposition's goal, four goals and four assists in half a season for him so far compared to dembele's zero.
