Amidst all the hysteria here yesterday and all the Levy Hate, I found it amazing to see that we were the 5th highest UK spenders this window!

ManC
ManU
Pool
Chelsea
Spurs

Chelsea spent 7m more
RM spent £10m more
than us and Pool 25m more (call it "a berahino")

I heard from a good source ex spurs manager from way back (friend of pulis)
SB was the player Poch wanted
that we made the £25m offer in cash and Peace reneged on the deal moving the goal posts:mad:
Pulis nearly walked out
which is why SB threw his toys out the pram and tweeted the way he did
BTW he CAN do a Webster he has already been there nearly 10 years!

So maybe it is time to rethink

Somebody will soon point out that the numbers are gross spend. Gross.
Not that I care, I wanted a net zero this window due to the long list of outcasts.

Shows how important it is for us to get good value for the players we are selling. Every penny recouped does seem to go on outgoings. To have a big window in either January or next summer we will be running out of "deadwood" to sell and will probably see someone like Lloris or Eriksen go to fund any big deals we want to do.

If it's true that we offered 25 million in full, which has been reported in a few places now, then it takes a brave (or stupid) man to reject that bid.

It's become increasingly apparent to me that Jeremy Peace started to take this whole situation personally which is unprofessional and detrimental to both the relationship between the clubs and between WBA and their player.

Levy might be a hard negotiator that sometimes makes stange bids but as he said in his statement, it's not personal and shouldn't ever be seen as such. Transfers are all business and Peace clearly lost sight of this.

Berahino might be able to do a webster but that will end any chance of him joining us. If levy signed a webster it would make kane, carroll, pritchard etc... virtually worthless. We would lose £millions off the value of the squad which means it will wipe £millions off the value of the club. With the loss of value of the club being reduced it's doubtful that the banks would be willing to loan us the money for the new stadium.
Not going to happen. We will have to wait till january.

To me Peace seemed to throw his toys out of the pram at the time when the Son transfer was done, like he was thinking he had us over a barrel on the SB transfer and could extort all he wanted from us due to our lack of other options, and with some talking about the new £20m "Striker" Spurs have signed he went full tilt thinking Levy now held all the cards and started shouting (bullshit )about our dealings.

Then he became entrenched in that position even upsetting his own staff.

He played the game badly; like he wanted a "I Took on Levy and Won" T-Shirt. And while some WBA fans maybe blinded by his Bullshit the fact is he will never get as much money as he could've for Saido, who is unlikely to feature much in the next 5 months as his contract winds down.

If you have a house and sell it for £200k and then buy another one for £200k you didn't actually spend anything.

I got no idea what I'm on about either guys don't worry.

I hate the whole gross spend statistic, net spend is a much bigger indicator of actual expenditure and would highlight how even West Bromwich spent more of their other funds (TV revenue etc...) than we did.

You are describing a Levy approved house buying process. Leeds, please take note ...

Realised I did a Levy from this discussion. i sold my house for £355,000 in 2013 and bought my new one for £350,000. With the development and care I have lavished on this house I could play hard-ball and in all probability get £600,000 for it (thats true) because of market forces. Well done Daniel I feel your pain.

People react differently. Some love to haggle, some don't. If I'm selling a car and one person has pissed me off with low ball offers or whatever, I'd sooner let somebody else have it a bit cheaper who is more respectful. In the past I've told people to f*** off even when they've eventually come up to full price because I'm an obstinate git and if I dislike somebody there's no going back. It's easy for Levy to say people shouldn't take things personally because that is how he is. He'd do well to at least acknowledge that not all successful business people are as abrasive as he is.

Apart from Estate Agents, Lawyers fees and stamp duty and future costs if you have to spend more money on up keep, fuel or council tax, not sure where I am going with this.

In your car analogy, you can argue that it's something very personal to you, even though you're selling it and want to get the best price, it's still something that you used regularly, possibly enjoyed, spent time, effort and money on, so it means more than just 'some item' - hence the reason you'd get knarked at someone messing you around on price.

However, with regards to Berahino, Peace should've only viewed him as a business asset, one that was in demand at a very good price - at a business level he should've been thinking profit/loss, cash in the bank, increased disposable income, but instead he made it personal, just like @theShiznit said earlier, he just wanted to get one over on Levy and look like the big-man!! In the end he's massaged his own ego but in the long run done himself no favours whatsoever.

We didn't offer to pay the amount up front in full. Even Levy admitted this in public.

No-one does these days. It doesn't matter as west brom would be able to use the agreement as security to buy somone else.

At the end of the day all parties should assess their conduct. I thought WBA going public was pathetic and really amateurish. Levy although technically made bids within the time frames of the window left things to late.....leaving bad blood masked under the words of business.
