Yes we should sign him if it was up to 15m but as they want 10M more than that, i would say i doubt it will happen.
I thought he played well yesterday.

I wouldn't be against him being brought in, but I'm always wary about buying these so-called 'dirty work' players for a lot of money. In most cases, these players are sort of rated for being underrated, for being a no thrills player who makes the team tick and performs a vital role within the team structure. Usually they were brought in for a relatively low fee and became fan favourites for getting stuck in, and I feel like they lose that appeal when big money is paid out for them.

In the past few seasons, we've bought Zokora, Capoue, Palacios etc for big money, hoping to have them do the same job that made them successful. None of them lived up to the hype, and I think that comes down to the fact that suddenly these 'underrated' players, these cogs, become multi-million pound players with big price tags on their heads. They're never going to live up to that fee because the job they do, whilst extremely important, isn't something that immediately gets recognised.

Our best defensive midfielders of the past decade or so were Scotty Parker, Sandro and Carrick. All of them came in for relatively modest fees, while the latter two arrived when they were almost unknown and looking to establish themselves. I'd love to see us save the money on Scheiderlin and let our vast scouting network find somebody who can perform the same role for a fraction of the price. Hell, buy two of them if they're unsure. Most of our best ever signings (Modric, Berbatov, Bale etc) were brought in before they lived up to their potential and were allowed to blossom at the club. I like those signings.

I don't think we'd have got much change out of them yesterday if Wanyama had played. Schneiderln played more of the defensive role than usual but still made a very good job of it. Bentaleb needs a better partner than Mason in a MF2 in my opinion and I can't see Poch ever swapping to 433.

I think that's all a fair point. I think that's partially why we bought Stambouli.

In normal circumstances I'd be against signing Schneiderlein. But as Poch has had him before and knows exactly what he's about then I say go for it. If Poch wants him that much Levy has to what he can to get him, within reason.

I think mason needs a better partner than bentaleb and schneiderlin would be perfect for it

Do you think Mason to be the better player?

Personally, I think it's the other way round. Bentaleb is more confident and composed. He's younger, yet plays with more maturity.

If we bought Schneiderlin and persisted with this formation then I'd have Morgan and Bentaleb as the 2 holding mids. Mason's still a good option to have though.

We need to figure out what to do with Bentaleb first, I personally think Bentaleb looks better in the box to box role that Schneiderlin did for Poch and so don't see the point in spending the money on him.

What we are desperate for is destroyer defensive CM who can play alongside Bentaleb.

I saw a stat earlier that we have scored the most goals in the Premier League (31) in 2015 Yet we have conceded 25.

Stopping the goals and protecting the defence is what we need to improve on

Spot on. We need a defensive midfielder to play with Bentaleb and I'm not sure that's what Schneiderlin is.

He isn't worth more than 10 mill. Anything over that and we'd be crazy.
If he genuinely improves our side then he is.

We've bought a lot of players for "their worth" who while not being bad players didn't actually improve us.

We need more quality and some players who can do the job the manager requires. Schneiderlein appears to be a player that fits this. I'd rather we pay more than his market value than look elsewhere.

I knew there would be a thread like this after the match. Just because he isn't amazing against us, it doesn't mean he's not worth getting.

Very true.

But for me he looks to be the same style of player as Bentaleb, and I'm not sure that's where our problems lie.

Wouldn't mind having both of course, but think we need to spend our money in other areas first....particularly at defensive midfield.

Schneiderlin is a very good player and I wouldn't say no, but I still feel that he would not solve our problems. Southampton conceded quite a few goals last year with him playing well.

If Pochettino could get players around the CM's working like Koeman has Southampton working as a collective unit, our CM's would look a damn sight better. Like they did against Arsenal and Liverpool (and funnily enough Southampton earlier in the season).

We have some player issues, but I think we have bigger issues stemming from the head coach, his selections and his inability, so far, to get us working collectively as well as we need to.

And this season they've got the joint best defence in the league...

He is very underrated imo because most of the excellent work he does can go unnoticed - he would be a great signing for most teams and would be a vital player for us if he came here.

Schneiderlin is a ridiculously massive upgrade on Ryan Mason, not even close. He had a decent game yesterday but their manager set up to let us have the ball so he wasn't as influential as he usually is. I don't think we could get him anymore but after seeing a lot of him this season £25m would be a fair price for him. Schneiderlin-Bentaleb midfield would absolutely boss the league.
