Not to rain on your parade but Dembele was at Fulham, Capoue was at Toulouse, Chadli was playing Belgian club football and Holtby is lucky to even be here.... so it's not like we had to be in the Champions League to compete for those players.

Lloris & Soldado came here with already weel established reputations, so yes, they could be seen as relative coups for Levy.

As for Willian, at least wait until we actually sign him before assuming that he's already a Spurs player.
Jesus fucking Christ. Out of the business we've done in these last 2 summers, you're willing to give DL credit (relative credit anyway) for 2 players.

That would make even A&C blush.

That wasn't my point.

My point was us being able to sign good players despite not being in Europe's Premier competition, players that are more than good enough to play in the CL.

Man Utd were sniffing around Dembele
Arsenal were sniffing around Capoue
Chadli was playing for Twente who play in the Eredivisie and has had CL experience.
Holtby was playing in the CL with Schalke before coming to us.

Willian done or not done - still doesn't detract from the point I'm making.

i still think it is entirely possible that Madrid talked up Bales price too much and cant find the money. I have no doubt he wants to go, and no doubt we have got a price we are setting.

I think they thought we would bend to internal and external pressure.

total opinion. But surely if they had the money they would have stumped up by now, they gain no advantage by dragging it out if we arent even negotating on price.

This is more than likely the case. They talked a big game to appease their fans and get the media to build pressure, in the hope that we or Bale would crack under it, but it just hasn't worked. Bale clearly wants to go if he can, however his brand is too wrapped around his nice guy image so he won't kick up a fuss (he also by all accounts isn't that sort of character either), and trying to win a game of chicken with Levy just is never going to get you very far.

So now they are stumped. They either have to put their money where their mouth is or look like ****s, and their recent rhetoric makes the look like ****s option seem more and more likely.

The Coentrao needing more convincing point by ITKs is also very interesting, as it would make sense that coming from Madrid he would expect us to offer him extremely generous terms and lots of assurances. We just don't do things that way, so I guess it is going to come down to us offering him a little bit more salary-wise and him deciding if he really thinks we are the team to allow him to win things.

Seems strange for an ITK to put themselves on the line like that if there isn't a press conference of some variety. Could be that the press are also assuming it's the Europa league conference?

We've not done a press conference for a signing since David Bentley in 2008. Even that was an anomaly and the first since the Hoddle years

As Hoofharted source is well known to be Darren Bent, I don't think he gets more than gossip from (non-Spurs) players' circles.

"
Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly signed a new five-year deal with Real Madrid worth £75million to keep him at the club for the rest of his career"

Their source was Marca - it did not happen. There's a deal on the table but no official announcement. He hasn't signed anything.
They weakened their bargaining position with the Bale chatter.

From FTL (Hoxton Hotspur):

Franco Baldini has just boarded flight BA H512 to Madrid.

Bale is now 1/10 to leave. 11/2 to stay. Longest odds of the summer.

Hope you all got in on Willan at 16's the other day. Can't believe someone rated that post 'doh'.

Wow loads of ITK already although the greedy person in me wanted Willian announced at 10.30am.

If Bale is staying anyone like to fathom what signings we will make? A CB who can play RB two youngsters (Halilovic and Todor) and a striker?

I'm staggered that Darren Bent's dad doesn't have his finger on the pulse about a Spurs PC, which we hold all the time after all.

When Chelsea and Man city splashed the cash when the'yre sugar daddys invested they went straight to the top table paying ridiculas wages and transfer fee's to entice those players to join there project. To me we are selling our project to the players like Soldado, Paulinho, Willian, etc whilst still keeping to our strict wage ceiling. Were not throwing money around willy nilly and to me that shows the players joining are for the right reasons and for the right intentions, obviously they will not be on peanuts and haven't come cheaply but we have got market value out of each deal with all but Soldado being at any age where they can grow and develop and which would increase their market value over time.

Im loving the reaction to all the other teams supportors, It like you going out and buy a great car but it cost lets say 10K and 1k a year to insure, then someone else rocks up same car cost 5k less and got the insurance for £100 a year.

I'm with Stoof. Bale stays, Madrid made a complete and utter Jeffrey James Hunt of it this summer and we have been laughing our asses off for the past six weeks as the price doubled without us barely saying a word. Win win, but I think ( maybe more hope since will win £450 ) he will stay.

Doubt the Willian announcement will take too long, the various stages of it seem to have sped up and happened a lot quicker because there was competition
