Just a little concerned that it will be a collection of great players rather than a team. A bit like man City the year before they won the title. Need time to gel and this season might just be about qualifying for the CL.

There will be adjustment but I saw enough on Sunday to think that will not take too long. AVB deals with tactics in detail and that alone will make up for some of gelling as everyone will know what they are supposed to do, where to do it and when. I think we'll be decent if a little rusty to begin with and when the players fully know each other we could be a dynamic superteam. I think Coentrao will be key to this and is the last piece needed to complete the puzzle. Lamela will be a superstar and would enhance the puzzle (but we do have Chadli). Both of those should now be our key business.

It really has been incredible our transfer business thus far and I seriously doubt anyone could have predicted this after losing out to Arsenal on the last day of the season.

Also, it completely debunks the theory that you can't attract the top players if you're not in the Champions League.

Yep

Lloris
Vertonghen
Dembele
Paulinho
Capoue
Chadli
Willian
Holtby
Soldado

All signed without CL football

Seems strange for an ITK to put themselves on the line like that if there isn't a press conference of some variety. Could be that the press are also assuming it's the Europa league conference?

Just had it confirmed to be by Michael Bridge of SSN via twitter that there is no press conference due for today and that most THFC officials and staff are in Georgia at the moment.

Michael Bridge@MichaelBridge_ 14m
@JustinTHFC1984 @ellisthfc News to me. Plus most THFC officials and staff all in Georgia.

Although he does confirm AVB will be doing a press conference later this afternoon for our game on Thursday.

If Willian signs I'll donate a tenner, truly cracking signing if it comes off and shows we have changed our ambitions for me

There would need to be rumours of CR7 signing a new deal before Madrid firmed up their bid.
He's entering the last two years of his deal, when they were mouthing off about Bale they were also mouthing off about him ending his career there.
This is as important to them as Bale signing - and as of yet it hasn't happened.
CRonaldo needs to sign a new deal before they can seriously think about signing Bale for a world record fee.

Pre-match press conference is at 2.45 UK time today. I can't see the club announcing anything (other than more Turfies) ahead of a big game.

Or they need the money from united to buy Bale?

I guess it could quite simply be a press release rather than a conference, crossed wires or something. Which would tie in with 10.30 signing announcements...

Regarding the press conference, I doubt there will be one done without AVB in attendance. He is out in Georgia now, so I can't see one happening today. Not ITK bashing, just food for thought. I might be wrong.

Franco reads MadridSpur post ref to Coentrao in ITK thread saying "needs more convincing" and thinks "we'll see about that"

Also I'm not sure the competition was as strong/close as it is now when Mourinho won the title the 1st time round.

I would suggest that Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool were a hell of a lot stronger than they are today.

What we have now is a larger field, not necessarily stronger, it could be a benefit to have lots of teams challenging and so taking points from each other, rather than a couple out in front.

:)

They really can't be seen to be selling the second best player in the world (first best if you believe Marca)

Ronaldo is into the last two years of his contract - he's still the most expensive transfer ever. Even us Spurs fans think GB11 is no CR7 - what do you think Ronaldo thinks about his mantle being taken away?

A contract renewal for Ronaldo will cost a lot - and it can't be borrowed from banks at the same time as another 100m

If you're looking for clues as to whether Madrid will sign Bale - Ronaldo signing a new deal before the window shuts might well mean he's off - but until that happens I'd be pretty confident that they're unable (not unwilling) to meet our terms.

It's amazing we are now facing a situation where a lot of us are indifferent as to whether Golden Boy stays or goes!

Only if we get Lamela as well. Every year there's a period where it seems we will sign EVERYONE! To be fair this year, thus far, we actually have. But if we end up with just Willian and Bale goes there will be a feeling of "meh" going around after all this talk of potentially keeping Bale and getting Willian or getting Lamela as well as Willian.

If Willian is going to be announced, wouldn't it make sense to announce him on Friday? He could be announced, join training, and be in the squad for Swansea as he would be registered before noon. I know it sucks as it'd be an extra 2 days wait, but I could see it happening that way.

Disagree mate. I would say i am far from indifferent about Bale staying. He is proven quality in this league, won us many points last season and is vital to us doing anything of note this season.
