we are very lucky in that we have several players who can play between the lines VDV/Modric and to a lesser extent Bale, but to have a full back who can do it is priceless, and Benny starts off so many attacks like that taking 2-3 players out of the game It's no coincidence that Benny receives more ball than any of our defenders (i'm sure Parker has passed to him more than any other player)

Fulham also have very good exponants of that art and is why we need a narrow 3 cm's on Sunday...

mentioned awhile back that he needs to be upgraded on in the summer, sloppy defensively without walkers pace to correct mistakes. so if he wants to leave then good, the money will come in handy

Kolorov is an interesting proposition and probably more attainable than we would imagine but considering our over reliance on Rafa to make even a telling contribution from set-pieces, having someone like Baines could be worth it's weight in gold across a season.

Plus of course, he's more than competent defensively and also would count as another one of our English/home grown contingent which is always a plus point.

kolarov isn't bad regarding freekicks either! i remember him scoring a few...
baines would be my priority however. also we could swap him for a bag of peanu...i mean pienaar!

Rather than be shocked by these comments, I wish people would realise this is how 99% of footballers think most of the time. Benny is just someone who has never claimed any different or kissed a badge in his life, so deserves a doff of the cap in my opinion. It's the cocks who kiss the badge then hold clubs to ransom that wind me up

People need to remember how much we're overachieving as a club due to good financial management, but also how poorly we pay compared to our rivals (West Ham got relegated and Portsmouth went bust with bigger wage bills than us). Ekotto's been here a while, he moved from Lens to improve his wallet (by his own admission) and now he's looking to do so again. There are few better left-backs than him in the league, so I reckon he probably could improve too

Benny is great and I hope he stays. I think Tottenham is his level though and he is unlikely to get picked up by many bigger clubs than us.

He has not said that he wants a pay rise!!!!!!!!!!

It's open to interpretation what he's said. He either means he wants a pay rise or he wants investment in the club, but you'd have to ask him personally to clarify. Either way he is calling for financial action on the club's part, which is a provocative thing to do publicly

If there is a change at Tottenham - some more money is made available - I wouldn't be against the idea of staying"

I read that as him wanting a payrise

Doesn't quite have the finesse of Baines but yes, is an alternative for a free kick specialist - baring in mind, when Rafa is off then Modric assumes the role and is quite abysmal!

wed get 12 million for him at least.

offer the 12 million straight for jordi alba

Rate Benny very highly but we wouldn't get £12m for him, and £12m wouldn't get Alba either

I'd go for Kolarov personally

I'm disappointed really, if these comments are true. Yes he is always honest but last year he said if Spurs wanted to give him a 10 year contract he'd sign it tomorrow. You can't just be honest when it suits.

He is a very good LB and just seemed as near to loyal as a player could be nowadays, despite his 'honesty'. Not too many better LB's around. Baines is a good shout but doesn't he get homesick? Benny's a character and I'll be disappointed if he leaves, but hey ho. He's in Paris at the mo isn't he? Prob been tapped up by PSG.

Does anyone else just see this as him telling Levy to open his wallet and invest in the squad to make Spurs one of the big boys? That's how I read it.

And if Levy doesn't, he wants to be allowed to leave. I'd say that's fair enough.

The direct quote was "évolution á Tottenham" meaning growth, development. Mattyspurs has got it spot on, he's talking about the team not personal gain.
